That is why I support Heifer International. They use the philosophy of "teach a man to fish". When you give to Heifer, you purchase an animal for a poor family. Heifer teaches the family how to utilize the animal for food and income. Animal offspring are given to others in the community and they are also taught how to care for the animal. My personal favorite animal to give is a flock of geese. They provide eggs for nutrition/income, feathers/down for income, and they can also be killed for meat.
