You have a very valid point. Call me paranoid, but in my daily life, scientology is one of the only subjects I'm actually afraid to discuss openly, because I never know who's listening. We have a scientology center in our town. Being an American, the feeling of fear over talking about a certain subject is very foreign to me. They are bullies who will stop at nothing to take someone down just for voicing an opinion about them.

They don't tend to really think about consequences (and apparently they didn't get any anyway).

You're right, which is why I'm still on the fence about this. What I find scary about what you brought up is that Tom really does believe ALL of us are wrong, and he is right. So to him, professing his beliefs across the country is the only "right" thing to do. He is completely brainwashed. I wonder if Katie is brainwashed too, or she just pretends to believe in scientology.

He was jumping on Oprah's couch because he thought that's how straight men ought to behave when they were madly in love with a woman.

Can't help but agree with this post.

One would think so.

Possibly, but there's no real glory in being one of thousands to finish a marathon, especially when you're a movie star married to one of the richest men in Hollywood. I doubt even the Co$ would think it expedient to pay off thousands of onlookers and runners just so that Katie robot could win such a "distinction." Anything is possible tho...

Can you imagine if she didn't run this marathon? All the hosts would want to know about is the book, scientology, suris real dad etcetc. She wouldn't have anything to talk about other than her private life.
Look, Katie just doesn't look like the kind of "fit" to be a runner IMO.
She just doesn't look like the kind who could run for 5 hours and not be huffing and puffing, sweating, stopping and starting while her body aches, flinching, hands on knees while she catches her breath....Normal stuff that people who aren't regular runners would do.
If we had've seen pics of Katie regularly hitting the pavement for the last 12 months in preparation for this, then I'd be more likely to believe it.

^^The Cruises carefully control their publicity, including photographs. It's entirely possible she's been training like mad at various Co$ faciilites where believe me, no paps would ever infiltrate.

She said in an interview that she trained in Germany when GMD was filming. They don't have centres there and i honestly think that if Katie was out running there had to be someone who has a picture of that.
I can't conceive of why anyone would fake running a marathon--but just because there doesn't seem to be any valid reason why she would fake it, it doesn't mean she didn't .

Her running that marathon was an attention-getter, a message to the world that she is a strong woman to be taken seriously, who is highly determined and capable. I mean, running marathons is a BIG deal. Most people can't or won't hack it. It's an elite group who can do it. Katie being part of that group just adds to her image of being seriously goal-oriented and determined.
Like her husband.
I think it makes perfect sense for Tom & the Co$ to want the world to believe she ran that race. They are creating a new persona for her (they've been working on it for months & months) and this is just one more stitch in the tapestry.

I agree Lobelia - they are trying to reinvent her as this amazing wonderwoman, the living embodiment of what Co$ can do for you. Their PR machine realised that Katie was coming over as a vapid, passive fembot so they decided to give the world a different view. Unfortunately I don't think they did their homework about marathons and what they involve and just told her to join the runners for the last few miles so she could "Finish" for the waiting paps.
However, if they can produce proof that she did indeed run the whole 26 miles then I'm happy to eat crow.

A point of view from a poster on another site .....
".....There is so much security and checking, no one can "fake" running it. Geez. The guy/trainer, whatever with her probably took an old number, he probably owns his own chip, and he probably joined her after the Staten Island start, ran with her as support until he couldn't get any further - (they have marshalls pulling people who aren't wearing official numbers off the course before you re-enter the park at Columbus Circle).
I have no idea why he wore the bib or the chip, because anyone can run with someone after they clear the start and the bridge......until Columbus Circle........"
What do we think of that? I can't pick it apart as I have no idea how things work in the marathon.

Why would someone shove a pillow under her shirt and call it a pregnancy? Why would someone marry a homosexual and calll it love? Why would someone join Scientology and call it faith?
That's right, cause she's batshit crazy.

Katie Holmes Exclusive: OK! Puts Those Marathon Rumors to Rest
(Getty Images)
Conspiracy theorists who say Katie Holmes didn't run the New York Marathon should do their homework first! OK! Magazine exclusively confirmed Katie's intent to run the marathon back in October--one month before the actual race.
And as for those "mystery men" running with her? OK! can confirm the actress ran the marathon accompanied by her trainer, Wes Oakerson, and her two security guards.
Katie may not have finished first, but let's give her some credit--the actress ran and finished all 26 miles of the New York Marathon. That's a feat for even the most A-list celebrity. Go Katie! OK! Magazine - First for Celebrity News - Katie Holmes Exclusive: OK! Puts Those Marathon Rumors to Rest
Mmmmmm looks like we've had their PR on here after all......
