VH1 ran his new videos this past Friday plus I watched Ziggy Stardust twice, they ran it a couple of times. His birthday was Friday as well. I think back to the tours and remember how completely different he was in the Serious Moonlight concert compared to The Young Americans show. I'm glad there are fans here. He was beloved.

    RIP!
I had a talk with my husband two days ago that if he was going to tour, I don't care how much the tickets are, I'm seeing Bowie. Doesn't seem real to have lost him. I agree with yanna in that I didn't expect his death to affect me this much. I keep trying to not cry in front of house guests, so I'm taking an awful long time in the bathroom.

I was working out with my wife this morning, and as we were going around the track, she decided to drop this bomb on me that Bowie had just died. I was in such a state of disbelief that I looked at her to see if it was a joke - and she never jokes about stuff like this. Then, she said that he had had cancer. If I'm not mistaken, he had just released a song last week.

Leaving aside all the contributions he made to music, and that he would no longer make, what really struck me was that I thought he was a walking advertisement for clean living. Trim, erudite, easygoing, in a long-term relationship with a gorgeous woman. Looked way younger than his age (in my opinion). It really hammers home for me that not everything is as it seems, nothing is guaranteed, and that you have to really enjoy every moment you have with someone. [Runs off to text everyone that he loves them...]

my 16 year old son loves Bowie and we were hoping to see him in concert someday. Guess not, the rolling stones better not die anytime soon. I want him to see them in concert.

I was lucky enough to see him live. It was amazing. He didn't want the show to end and neither did the audience.

It's funny because David Bowie was on my mind a lot this weekend. Probably because it was just his birthday, his new album was released, and the shit with his trashy ex. We were driving to get the cat and listening to the radio. Sirius has a new Tom Petty channel and I said something to my SO about how all these artists keep getting their own channel, but not David.

I remember when I was a young teen, around 12 or 13, I loved him so much that I went to see Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence. Last night, during the Golden Globes, Ryuichi Sakamoto was nominated for an award. My SO asked me how in the hell I knew who this guy was. I told him it was because of David Bowie. I'm so glad that I had an artist like Bowie at that age and not some manufactured pop twit.

Iman apparently Tweeted this two days ago - very heavy in the context of what was going on:

I am so very sad about this. Saw him on the Serious Moonlight tour. Saw his wonderful exhibition at the V & A but it wasn't enough and now it will never be enough. RIP.

He was a lifelong hardcore smoker. He suffered a major heart attack in his late fifties, and numerous other heart attacks. He was a long time heroin and cocaine addict.

It's amazing he lived as long as he did, and was as productive as he was. His creative legacy is enormous.

A legend, a true artist, an icon. There will never be another like him. RIP.

ETA- I'll never be able to listen to this new album without feeling awe. It's like Warren Zevon's The Wind. I'm choked up every time I hear it. There's something humbling as a human being that comes from knowing they knew this would be the end. I hope we can all meet the final curtain with that type of grace.
