Generally I'd agree and say that you should deal with one situation before getting into another, but sometimes it isn't that easy. For example, if a (previously non observant) spouse starts refusing a divorce on religious ground you could end up having to spend years and years alone until they either die or run out of spite.

Nope. I really think she broke two guys' hearts here and has been struggling to cover it up/minimize her tatty little cheating footprints all over this shite situation. Colin's always been bedazzled by her, and she's always seemed be a lot less emotionally involved.

Marco Brancaccia details his lengthy & passionate affair with Colin Firth’s wife Livia

The Colin Firth-Livia Giuggioli story last week just sort of destroyed me. I really thought they had a great marriage, a strong marriage. But no, we can’t have nice things. Livia spent months of 2015 and 2016 carrying on some kind of torrid affair with an old friend by the name of Marco Brancaccia. At some point, Livia called it off with Marco. And he went into full-on Fatal Attraction mode, emailing Colin Firth to tell him about the affair, and sending photos of himself (Marco) with Livia to Colin. Marco allegedly began stalking Livia and her family and Colin and Livia then “reunited” and joined forces to ask the Italian courts for a restraining order, and for Marco to be charged with stalking and harassment. Livia admits that she had an affair with Marco, and she and Colin made a public statement about how the affair came at a moment of quiet separation between them, and that their marriage is totally fine now.

Historically speaking, the British tabloids don’t waste a lot of ink on Colin Firth. They’ll publish photos of him when they get them, for sure, but there’s not an industry or a desire in Britain to turn Firth into some kind of tabloid fixture. But with this news, the British papers are like “holy sh-t this is messy!!!” Which is why the Daily Mail did some kind of deep dive on Marco, who he is, his history, and what’s really going on with the Firth family. They also interviewed Marco extensively, because of course they did. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

Marco claims the stalking story is rubbish: ‘I fell in love completely with Livia. I felt she was the woman of my life. I loved her very much, very much,’ he said, adding that accusations of stalking are ‘rubbish’ and that the real story is that of ‘a famous couple trying to cover up her love affair. They totally freaked out that I would go public and tell everyone this story, so they filed a complaint against me for stalking.’

What Brancaccia says about the stalking: Brancaccia’s alleged campaign of harassment is said to have extended from September 2016 to April 2017. He claims, however, that during that period he sent only two WhatsApp messages to Livia and a single email to Colin. ‘I was based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and she was in London,’ says Brancaccia. ‘I have not made one single phone call to her. Not one. I am the only case in the world of a stalker living in another continent and not making one single phone call. How is that possible?’

The email Marco sent to Colin Firth: Brancaccia is said to have sent a ‘heartbreaking and malicious’ email to Firth, who confronted Livia with it 18 months ago. The message is said to have included a ‘detailed diatribe’ of their affair and contained revelations ‘designed to wound’. A friend of Firth’s said the email was an attempt to destabilise Colin and Livia’s attempt to sort things out in their marriage, adding: ‘He described intimate meetings that would devastate any husband — no matter what the state of their marriage. Colin presented this to his wife in what must have been a very difficult confrontation. But he has maintained his dignity throughout.’

The affair: According to Brancaccia, he attended a party at the Firth’s home in Umbria while the actor was away filming in the summer of 2015. ‘We had dinner, we danced and at the end of the evening we kissed, and that was the beginning of our story. ‘We met in many places because she was travelling or we arranged some trips. She visited me in Brazil. I went to London. We were in New York, Iceland and Prague together. We met in Rome. She seemed to be a wonderful person. And she’s beautiful, of course. We’d been friends for many years and suddenly this magic sparkle erupted and we fell in love. Both of us. She wanted to divorce. This is what she said to me. I believed it. I had no reason to doubt it.’

Brancaccia has a history of threatening behavior towards ex-lovers: Nearly 15 years ago, he was embroiled in a lengthy bitter legal battle with his Icelandic former partner, Snaefridur Baldvinsdottir, over custody of their daughter, Marta. The family had been living in Mexico where Marco was working at the time, but politician’s daughter Snaefridur (known as Didi) used an emergency passport issued by the Icelandic embassy in Mexico City to return to Iceland in 2003 after Brancaccia allegedly seized their daughter’s passport. Brancaccia accused her of child abduction and said that her father had misused his political influence to assist his daughter’s flight. She later told Reykjavik District Court in 2004 that Brancaccia’s behaviour towards her had been violent, something he absolutely denied. The case was widely reported in Icelandic newspapers. Tragically, Didi died in 2013 after suffering an epileptic fit at home in Iceland. But her 79-year-old father, Jon Baldvin Hannibalsson, former chairman of the Icelandic Social Democratic Party, told me that his daughter, who was signed to Elite models at the age of 17 and went on to become a university lecturer, ‘was afraid of Marco’.

    [From The Daily Mail]

I’ll say it again: God, this is messy. The only thing I think Marco is being truthful about is the passionate state of the affair when it was happening – they would travel to see each other, she would tell him that she planned to divorce Colin Firth, everything was hot and passionate and secret… until the bloom was off the rose. Until Livia came to her senses. Until Marco possibly did something to scare her. And then she came to her senses in a hurry and tried to break it off with him and he went all Fatal Attraction on her. That’s what I believe. As for whether Colin and Livia were really and truly separated at that time… no, I don’t think they were. And I think Colin is simply being a gentleman about Livia’s affair, and he’s helping her and protecting her.

If I were Firth, I would make Livia watch me dive bomb this Brancaccia f*cker with a vintage biplane. I know it's not very original, but it is ironic.

'I know you're hurting too': Colin Firth 'wrote a sympathetic letter to his wife's ex-lover she accused of stalking her' after he emailed the actor to explain their 'affair'

    • Livia Giuggioli claimed 55-year-old Marco Brancaccia made threatening calls
    • The Italian journalist also accused of texting and emailing photographs to her
    • Brancaccia denied the claims and forced Livia to admit they had an affair in 2015
    • Now emerged that her husband, award-winning British actor Colin Firth, replied 'sympathetically' to an email sent to him by Brancaccia with details of the affair

Colin Firth wrote a sympathetic letter in reply to his wife's ex-lover turned 'stalker' telling him 'I know you're suffering too', it has been claimed.
Film producer and environmental consultant Livia Giuggioli made headlines when she alleged that 55-year-old Marco Brancaccia had left her living in fear after threatening her via telephone calls and texts.
The Italian journalist was also accused of emailing photographs of Livia to 57-year-old Firth which prompted the actor to take legal action through the Italian courts.
But in an astonishing twist an outraged Brancaccia himself stepped into the fray, publicly refuting claims that he was a stalker and, in effect, forcing 48-year-old Livia to admit that they had embarked on an affair in 2015.
Indeed, Brancaccia told the Daily Mail exclusively of the 'magic sparkle' he shared with Livia during what he claims was a passionate 11-month affair.

And now it has been claimed that when Brancaccia sent details of the affair to Firth, the award-winning actor replied:' You have made me suffer but I know you are suffering too.'
The Sun reports Brancaccia allegedly emailed the King's Speech actor a picture of him with his wife.
Brancaccia told the Daily Mail their relationship began after a family party at the Firths' home in Umbria, Northern Italy, in the summer of 2015 and that at the time Livia had wanted to divorce her famous Oscar-winning husband.

'I fell in love completely with Livia. I felt she was the woman of my life. I loved her very much, very much,' he said, adding that accusations of stalking are 'rubbish' and that the real story is that of 'a famous couple trying to cover up her love affair'.
Livia and Brancaccia have known each other since she was a teenager. Brancaccia told the Mail that in the past he has even celebrated New Year with the Firths at their home in Umbria.
Firth met his future wife in Colombia in 1995 during filming of a BBC adaptation of Joseph Conrad's novel Nostromo.

More than two decades on, the Firth's marriage was, until this week, widely regarded as one of the strongest in showbiz

Livia was working as a production assistant on set during filming.
At the time, Firth was an international heart-throb with millions of swooning female fans, thanks to his mean and moody portrayal of Mr Darcy in the BBC's Pride And Prejudice.

He already had a son — Will Firth, who was born in 1990 and is now an actor in his own right — after a five-year relationship with actress Meg Tilly.
Colin and Meg lived for several years in a log cabin deep in the woods of rural Canada before Firth's career took him back to London. Their eventual separation was amicable.
Firth later described meeting Livia as 'like meeting somebody that you just feel you're the other half to'.
Livia was 27 years old when she married 36-year-old Firth in a romantic hilltop ceremony at a 13th-century church set among forests and vineyards near her home in Citta della Pieve in June 1997.

A picnic reception was held in an olive grove on a nearby estate owned by Livia's parents.
More than two decades on, the Firth's marriage was, until last week, widely regarded as one of the strongest in showbiz.
The couple have two sons, Luca, 16 and Matteo, 13, and have homes in Chiswick, West London and in Umbria. They also share a passion for environmental causes and global charity work.
On Thursday night, as the drama surrounding the stalking allegations unfolded, a spokesman for the couple released an extraordinarily frank statement.
'A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate. During that time Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr Brancaccia.
'The Firths have since reunited. Subsequently, Mr Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented.
'For obvious reasons, the Firths have never had any desire to make this matter public.'
Brancaccia's alleged campaign of harassment is said to have extended from September 2016 to April 2017. He claims, however, that during that period he sent only two WhatsApp messages to Livia and a single email to Colin.
Details of the police investigation first appeared in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
Brancaccia insists, meanwhile, that all the claims being made about him are 'absolutely untrue.'
'It's a completely different story,' he says. 'It's a mess, and in the end somebody will have to pay for this. I'm shocked. It's very sad. It's a horrible story.'
A spokesman for the couple said: 'This is an ongoing criminal prosecution and it would be inappropriate to comment in this circumstance.'

This is like some kind of horrible sequel to Love Actually. If he moves to France and hooks up with his Portuguese housekeeper, then we'll know...

I don't normally feel bad for famous people being in the news, but I feel bad for him (and yes, the kids). Even if he had been an asshole to her, he was a private asshole as far as I know and when you make it a practice not to broadcast every intimate detail of your personal life, this kind of scrutiny sucks.

This Marco guy sounds like he has a history of being a grade A asshole.

How much you want to bet Marco was in the friend zone with Livia since they were kids until this rocky patch in the relationship, then jumped on the chance to "comfort" her. Suddenly fell in love, my ass. I'm wildly speculating, of course.

Are they going for a cyber stalking angle? I'm not sure about the stalking thing. The official statement refers to it as "harassment" so I don't know what that equates to in legal terms.

Brancaccia does NOT have a proven history of threatening behavior towards ex-lovers. His baby mama skipped town and country and continent with his child, and he objected... as would most all of us. I'm not saying he was innocent, but there is no proof of anything. Of course the politician grandpa sides with his daughter - especially since she died five years ago.

^True. While I'm not ready to burn him at the stake, I do think trouble seems to find him.

According to the article he was 25 and she was 18 and at university when they met. So not "childhood friends" or kids.

Another one who thinks that because he loved her very, very much he couldn't possibly be a stalker. Because isn't that exactly what a stalker would say? I don't know the truth, but he seems to be doing exactly what he's claiming they were afraid of.

I read that part of the article and was like "Okay, so where's the part where he was threatening to her?" All I read is she took off with their child to her home country (which may have laws which were much more in her favor) and him being essentially hit with a gag order. I'm also not saying he's innocent, but neither is Livia...

Thanks for the clarification. It was a very long article, and as is evident now, I only skimmed it.
