If it were a publicity stunt and he's gay, I think he would have taken up with either Liza Minelli (who probably has a published bearding rate by now) or Martha Raye (by seance).

i totally agree it's publicity. that one pictuere, the body language, her hands on her lap... no intimacy there. (and thank god for that!)
