When PD, Bubba and one other manager who was a giant part of their asshattery found out, they nixed it and told her it would never happen. I believe that's when she quit.

    African American employees were forced to use the back entrance to the restaurant, use a non public restroom, and not even allowed in the front door to pick up their pay. They were often called "monkeys", "niggers" and more. There were at one point 2 african american hostesses, but one was accused of stealing a patrons purse, and while police found her absolutely not a valid suspect, she was fired, the other hostess moved to the back and PD and Bubba claimed they would never hire another black hostess and only have white people in the front of house.

    Employees where shaken violently by the shoulders, spit on, etc. Vendors often told Ms. Jackson how uncomfortable their treatment made them feel. One vendor, who was black, was asked by Bubba "I bet you wish you could wash that black off you so you could be like me". When told he was quite happy with who he was, Bubba said "You just look dirty."

    Wow it just gets worse and worse. Soon there will be no one left for her to collect a paycheck from. Can't really pity her though. She obviously never learned the golden rule "treat others as you would like to be treated." No sympathy for this horrible woman.

    I'd really have to cut a bitch! I'd NEVER EVER let an employer treat me or my co-workers like that. Someone would have to call the 5-0 on me for using a cast iron skillet on Bubba's head.

    One of the worst things (to me) is that Ms. Jackson in the complaint said she had hired people who really needed the money and who wanted to work really hard to turn the restaurant around (since that what she was hired to do), and they were all treated that way. They needed the paychecks so badly that they put up with things no human being should have to.

    Again, I said upthread that I heard a rumor that employees are forming some kind of class action suit. I really hope that is true. And I hope they come out of it comfortable enough to be able to be choosy about their next jobs, and that work eithics and loyalty are as rewarded as they should be.

    Is it me or is Paula just been trying to focus on her using the N-word when referring to the man who robbed the bank where she worked? She hasn't really offered any explanation for the other incidents mentioned in Miss Jackson's suit.

    I read the whole 145 page deposition. Maybe its just me or maybe my eyes glazed over after a while but it sounded to me like hiring HR people was Paula's idea or she approved of it.
    And the staff (not just black) bathrooms all were expcted to use, not the ones up front for paying guests. To be sure there are lots of black guests.
    That makes sense, it make me nervous if a waitress comes in & I have to watch to make sure she washes her hands!
    I would like for our resident legal-eagle to read it and see what I am missing. That would be you,Montana!

    I could have sworn in the complaint I read that only the black employees were required to use the back bathrooms and back door. Course, I could be wrong, since my eyes were glazing over a bit too.

    Also, I haven't read the deposition. Just the complaint.

    The complaint says black employees had to use a back bathroom; white employees could use public restroom. McJag, I'm assuming you read Paula's depo? She's obviously denying the allegations in the complaint. Guess it depends on who you believe.

    From the details of the complaint, it seems that the black employees were being forced to use a separate bathroom because "that was Paula's Policy"

    A few more highlights for y'all:

    Paula Deen is an old school sexist woman that believes women and men have certain “roles” in the workplace. She fired a male general manager for sleeping with an underage server and said “I'm gonna do something I've never done. I'm gonna put a WOMAN in a MAN'S job. This was in 2005.

    Lisa Jackson was a called a “Jew girl” by Bubba Hiers and “almost Jewish” by manager Karl for “saving” money for the restaurant.


    Bubba Hiers (Paula Deen's brother) was stealing close to $26,000 a month in receipts.


    Lisa Jackson was denied a high position based on her sex, because Paula Deen's sons and their friend and manager Dustin would never allow a “woman” to tell them what to do.


    White general manager Dustin Walls of the Lady & Sons restaurant had to issue an internal apology for threatening to fire “all the monkeys” in his kitchen. Lisa Jackson brought Dustin Walls (the best friend of her sons) to Paula Deen's home to address “firing all the monkeys in his kitchen” comment. All Paula Deen did was literally “slap him on the wrist”. That was it. Paula Deen didn't want word to get back to the NAACP. She said they had to “act” like they were “doing something”, which in essence, neither Paula or her family could give a damn.


    Bubba Hiers stated that he learned from his sister Paula Deen that when it comes to firing a male or female staff member, it's better to fire the female, because girls are a dime a dozen, but it's hard to find good “male” employees.

    Lisa Jackson wanted a raise in 2007. She was told by her manager Karl, that Bubba Hiers (Paula Deen's brother) would NEVER allow a “woman” to be paid more than what she is currently being paid. He said that he would have a heart attack if he knew she was getting paid as much as she currently was.

    At a meeting held discussing getting equal or fair compensation with the male managers, Paula Deen told the her female managers that they needed to all get along and become “one”, because none of them would ever make more the male managers. When Paula Deen's male gm Karl came to Lisa Jackson's defense, Paula told him to “Shut up.”

    In 2007, Earl Bubba Hiers offered a white male the job of kitchen general manager for $65,000 to only work from 9:00 – 3:00, no nights, no weekends, plus bonuses, vacations, and retirement. His salary would only be $100 a week less than Lisa Jackson. Lisa Jackson would be HIS supervisor. When Lisa applied for the position with significantly less responsibilities than her's, she was flatly refused by Bubba Hiers. NO WOMAN was going to get that job. It will ALWAYS GO TO A WHITE MALE. Lisa also wasn't getting holiday and retirement pay, even though she's been there since 2005 and was a good little “jew girl” helping to make them money.

    Lisa Jackson stopped receiving bonuses for six months until her manager Karl took them away from her for getting divorced. He's a religious nut that pushes his views in the workplace.

    Bubba Hiers would view pornography wherever there was a computer. He would even use the kitchen computer and staff would be forced to view it after he left. Lisa shared a small office with him and was forced to see and “hear” the pornography on the screen EVERY DAY for FIVE YEARS. Paula Deen was very aware of her brother's on the job porn watching. She called them "jokes".

    Bubba Hiers made a joke in front of staff that the reason why men like “flat heads” is because you can lay a can of beer on their heads while they're giving you a blowjob.

    Paula Deen said that she'd like a "bunch of little niggers to wear long sleeved white shirts, black shorts and bow ties like back in the Shirley Temple days."

    Earl Bubba Hiers falsely fired a black hostess for “stealing” a white customer's purse. He called the police and had her searched. Lisa Jackson wasn't aware when she hired two black hostesses that Earl Bubba Hiers didn't like blacks in the front of the restaurant. This is when she first got the position. Needless to say, the black hostess was humiliated. Bubba Hiers made Lisa moved the remaining black hostess to the back of the restaurant where she could not be seen by customers. This was also the practice in Paula Deen's restaurants as well. Paula Deen and Bubba Hiers would NEVER, EVER hire a black manager in their restaurants, because they believe blacks should only be allowed to frequent the back of the restaurant and not be seen by customers.

    Bubba Hiers told his black security guard “Don't you wish you could rub the black off you like me?” the security guard says he was fine the way he was, Bubba's response was “You look dirty, I bet you wish you could.”

    Bubba Hiers said that Obama should go investigate the spill in the Gulf of Mexico, so that he could "nigger-rig it".

    Lisa Jackson tried desperately at every turn to be transferred to other restaurants due to atmosphere of fear and toxicity that Bubba Hiers heaped on his black and female employees. She was told by management and Paula Deen herself that she would NEVER leave Bubba's restaurant.

    Paula Deen was very aware of the treatment her brother heaped on the restaurant employees and his monthly stealing of company funds. Addressing his behavior was never an option and all her managers knew it.

    Earl Bubba Hiers was talking about one of his employees named Tony Cole talking about the hot temperature in the kitchen with Lisa Jackson and another person, saying saying that that if he thought it was hot in there, then he (Bubba Hiers) would ship him back to Africa. Bubba Hiers said he wished he had a million dollars, so that he could ship all niggers back to Africa.

    A raccoon trapper came in to trap raccoons in the restaurant (must be a southern thing), and Earl Bubba Hiers said that he had a "bunch of coons in the kitchen" and that he would pay the trapper $10.00 an hour or $10.00 per coon to take.

    Bubba Hiers didn't want blacks (ALL BLACKS not just his employees) out front using the bathroom or in the restaurant. Earl Bubba Hiers referred to them as “bugs”.

    When a black person would come in for a job, Bubba Hiers told his managers to put the number “110” at the top of the page, turn it over, then put a cross through it, and it was a “NO”.

    Bubba Hiers told one employee that her having dentures would make her husband really happy “tonight”.

    Bubba Hiers told one employee who said she returned from a six minute dating club that six minutes with HIM would be all she needed.

    Bubba Hiers watched porn damn near everyday and passed around sexually suggestive material to female employees and made them watch the porn with him.


    Bubba Hiers said that it was PAULA DEEN'S POLICY that no blacks work the front of the restaurant. It was also a policy at Lady & Sons restaurant as well.

    Black employees were NEVER allowed to go through the front door or use the front bathrooms. EVER. Only white employees were allowed to go through the front door and use the front bathrooms. Bubba Hiers didn't even want black customers using the front bathrooms or in the restaurant PERIOD, but there wasn't too much he could LEGALLY do about it. This was also a PAULA DEEN APPROVED POLICY.

    Bubba Hiers called one of his black employees named Martel “boy” a lot and he would respond “Yes, master”.

    Bubba Hiers violently shook an employee named Big Will up against the wall and told him that he didn't have “civil rights”, because he worked for him and Paula. Big Will wouldn't tell Bubba Hiers about an incident that happened in the kitchen and said he wanted to invoke his Fifth Amendment Rights. Bubba Hiers went ballistic on him. Bubba called some other employee in the kitchen, she saw what was happening and didn't go in. She told Lisa she was scared of Bubba Hiers.

    Bubba Hiers charged his visits to the strip club as an “expense” and NO, he wasn't bringing clients with him. This is in addition to Bubba Hiers stealing $26,000 a month in receipts from his restaurant from which he was a 49% co-owner with Paula Deen Enterprises owning 51%.

    Bubba Hiers also made some racial slurs regarding a Boys Home. The woman he said it in front of was made to feel uncomfortable around him.

    Both Bubba Hiers and PAULA Deen would treat black employee Gene Jones like shit by paying the white waiters/servers their tips/checks and making him wait. He also complained about how he had to use the back bathroom when the white guys who worked the SAME JOB he did was allowed to use the front one (white bathroom) which again was a PAULA DEEN POLICY that of course, wasn't written anywhere.

    Bubba Hiers would hit on one black female employee constantly and she called him her “master” and the head white man in charge. She said she would basically do whatever Bubba Hiers asked to keep her job. Never said she had sex with him, but from the way Lisa said it, it was “implied” that she felt forced to fuck him for her job.

    Bubba Hiers fired three women for “younger” ones. They brought EEOC charges against Lisa Jackson for it. She claims she never discharged them. She's lying. You can tell by how she answers the questions when presented with exhibit proof.

    Bubba Hiers was intoxicated in the kitchen for a meeting, started beating his chest and challenging everyone in the room to “fight” him. Bubba Hiers said he would meet them on the “dock” if they took up his challenge.

    Bubba Hiers was embezzling/stealing money from the register. $26,000 was missing from the till and when Lisa Jackson asked why it was so low, Karl (one of the managers) said it was because of Bubba Hiers' stealing money from the establishment. Paula Deen covered it up by giving Bubba Hiers a “promotion” (I think) and called it Bubba just taking his “future” wages. The manager (Karl) said that Paula Deen's sons steal money from their respective restaurants as well, but they know how to get away with it.

    An employee named Dustin called another employee Ray a monkey. Paula Deen's black employee named Dora told Paula about it and Paula Deen told her to stop lying and that nothing was going to be done to Dustin, because he was Jamie's best friend.

    Lisa Jackson said that she was on Paula Deen's back porch with her brother Bubba Hiers talking about his wedding. Paula Deen said she wanted the black men to dress up like in the old Shirley Temple movies in white shirts and black shorts. She NEVER, EVER mentions anything about some North Carolina themed restaurant that she claims she got the “idea” from. This is what Paula Deen says in HER deposition.

    Dora is a longtime black employee whom Paula Deen discriminated against. Paula Deen promoted Dustin (white dude) as manager of the kitchen in one of her restaurants. Dora had been there much longer and has way more experience. Dustin even got paid than longterm white manager Lisa Jackson. So, it appears that Paula Deen believes in paying WHITE MALES more than blacks and even WHITE female employees.

    Uncle Bubba's restaurant was losing money. The restaurant is in the hole to Paula Deen Enterprises for $300,000. Paula Deen claimed she didn't know that in her deposition, but I doubt that.

    Big Will (Will Frazier), the employee that Bubba Hiers violently manhandled and yelled obscenities too, has said that the “incident” never took place. Lisa Jackson said that three days later Big Will cornered her in the locker area saying that he was scared of Bubba Hiers and didn't know what Bubba was going to physically do to him. Big Will afraid of both physical and job retaliation. There were many witnesses to this incident, but he refuses to tell the truth about what happened due to fear of losing his job.

    Black employees complained that the racist/segregationist rules were applied at ALL of Paula Deen's restaurants. They knew this from family members who worked at the different establishments.

    Bubba Hiers came in drunk one day while Lisa Jackson was having a conversation with some guys about business. Bubba Hiers asked are they offering her a job and then he grabbed her face, kissed her, turned to the men and said she's not going anywhere, she's mine. One of the men made a remark saying now he knows why she stays there and she was very embarrassed.

    I think that all the firings and dropping of sponsors were preemptive strikes before the details of the deposition were released to the public. Deen's ratings were declining, and she had a lot of fallout from the diabetes issues already and this was just the icing on the cake. I'm pretty sure the attorneys of her sponsors probably read details of the deposition and complaints before they made the decision to let her go and it wasn't just about what racial slurs Paula may have said way back when. Funny how the media has mostly focused on that and ignored all the other derogatory things going on.

    I'm pretty sure a lot of the people who are defending Deen probably see nothing wrong with how Bubba Hiers was treating employees if they bothered to read the deposition. Just my gut feeling.

    As for Paula's side of the story:

    Paula Deen claims she didn't know her brother Bubba Hiers had problems with alcohol and cocaine. She thinks he went to rehab for alcohol only.


    Paula Deen said she knew Bubba Hiers was "innocent" of all these allegations against him, but then Lisa Jackson's attorney said "You're not aware that Bubba Hiers confirmed in his deposition that he did all these things he's accused of?" She wasn't. She was blindsided by this.


    When Paula Deen was asked if she was aware of the violent attack on Big Will, she claims that Bubba Hiers told her it wasn't true. That he did speak to Big Will, but in a "nice" way.


    Paula Deen knew all about her brother's pornography obsession, but she keeps making excuses about men being men.


    Paula Deen said when they were talking about her "little nigger" themed wedding that it was done in her studio in a bathroom while filming and she doesn't really remember who was there.


    Paula Deen has a lot of "I don't recalls" and not being aware of practically every damn thing. Paula Deen is covering for her brother. She's 7 years older than he is. She took him in when he was 16 and she was 23 married with a child. She's felt responsible for him ever since and refuses to see him for the scummy fuck that he is.




    Paula Deen's complacent simpleness, backwards southern beliefs on male white hierarchy and blind unwavering love for her brother Bubba Hiers' racist, sexist and violent antics in the workplace is WHY all of her major sponsors have left her.


    Oh, I hope you caught those "jew" comments in Lisa Jackson's complaint.


    I was only able to read these three documents, but I'm sure Walmart, Food Network, Target, QVC, etc., read ALL of the depos and complaints affiliated with this case and had no choice, but to let her go.


    There's no get back from this, because Paula Deen is still denying that any of it took place when even her brother Bubba Hiers, along with all her former managers, employees confirm a sick, twisted, racist, sexist and fear driven work environment.

    Yes, it is curious. And I'd venture to guess they haven't bothered. I went on the "Paula Deen Rags to Riches" tour about 10 years ago when at a meeting in Savannah, and one of the stops was Bubba's Oysterhouse. If I recall correctly, she helped him get in the biz. There's no way she didn't know this was going on, in my mind.

    See,now that bothers me. The woman is/was crazy busy and this was her brothers place-not hers. I doubt she had time to know what hers was doing,much less his.
    Also-she had such a struggle getting started-why would she let men be paid more?
    This bothers me the most-those accusations are slime,but they are just accusations. Not fact,yet at least.

    Her brother sounds like total trash. I am drawing that from the same accusations,but he has had trouble with alcohol before...
    That Lisa person sounds a bit off herself.

    Whatever-all those corporations must have had legal teams swarming all over that paperwork.
    They might know more than we do,actually.
    There is no doubt those accusations are horrid and maybe she deserves what she gets. I guess it chaps me that she (a woman) get trashed more that Michael Vick or Lance Armstrong,IMO.

    According to Paula's deposition, Bubba Hiers more or less confirmed the accusations Lisa Jackson made against him. The question is which ones, and where is his deposition?
