That woman ain't gonna stand for poor taste. She will find low cal substitutes for things we ain't even thought of! I see no reason why the drug company thing will stop her at anything. The woman is determined and always has been.
But, like she says-she is your cook, not your doctor!
i didn't say the novo would stop her. i just think it's funny that novo hired her to shill insulin. but i'm one of those who are really against direct marketing of drugs to the public . . . .

Good post on Jezebel about her shilling for Novo:

Think of it this way: if Novo Nordisk is selling a drug for diabetics, they actually have no vested interest in helping diabetics or people in general eat healthier. Healthier people = less diabetics = less drug sales for them. Hence, they get a spokesperson who is not a spokesperson at all. Someone that has the disease, but also gives out a wink and a nod message that it's okay to eat unhealthily and be proud of it.

i agree with the jezebel post. they summed up perfectly why paula was a great face for novo diabetes products. it's kind of like tobacco companies investing in nicotine control products.

I do think it ought to be illegal for medical or any prescription drug companies to hawk it to the general public. I mean why? So you will hound you doctor? Which is what happens, I guess. But it needs to stop, at least on TV.

^^^ yeah, but with the increase in the #s of type 2 diabetics there is even more competition among the diabetes drug companies. type 2 is considered a blockbuster market and new products (and more competition) are being investigated all the time. and this is why paula was a great catch. she is nonassuming and nonthreatening. recognizable. ugh i hate direct marketing of drugs . . ..

DTC medical advertising sucks. Unfortunately, there's no sales rep or commercial for health and exercise, and a few public service announcements don't do enough.

Type 2 diabetes is largely preventable. It makes me really angry that people don't hear that message enough.

i think there should be laws against this crap. i remember when i was living in switzerland and it was illegal to advertise prescription drugs (other than in medical journals and other specialised media). the only ads for medication were for otc stuff like antacid and analgesics. i think that's how it should be.

unfortunately big pharma has a lot of political lobbyists who fought to have direct marketing legalized. and there are also some consumer groups who favor it as well. just like there are times when individual patients can be invited to the FDA to participate in advisory committee discussions about drug approvals. oy don't get me started on this . . . .

Of course she a paid spokesperson, Paula is a business woman first. She should look at this as a new type of show and cookbook. Healthier southern dishes can be done. She should get on it.

I know! It is really an open/shut case. It has no business in main stream TV. Unless there is an all doctor/ all the time chanel!

Her son, Bobbie has a new show, aptly titled "Not My Mama Meals" which are supposed to be healthier versions of Paula's.

Well if she changes her cooking style, I'm done with her. There are dozens of other celebrity chefs who do healthy, we need someone for indulgence.
