Umbrella 'didn't work' for Britney Spears

Singer/songwriter Taio Cruz has confirmed that 'Umbrella' was offered to Mary J Blige and Britney Spears before Rihanna turned it into a worldwide hit.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Cruz said: "They [Spears's representatives] sent it back saying it didn't work for her."

Mary J Blige recently claimed she turned the track down because it was too mainstream.

Cruz, whose friend Christopher 'Tricky' Stewart co-wrote the song, attributed its success to the shrinking attention spans of music fans.

"The audience can be distracted quite easily, so you want something they can sing along with immediately," he said.

"[It's] so simple, it's like a playground chant. If you look at the most successful songs, they are choruses of four of five words, three notes, repeated. It's not rocket science."

Britney Spears Offered London Stage Role As 'Aging Blanche DuBois'

Britney Spears has been offered the lead in a West End production.
The 'Toxic' singer who made a guest appearance on US sitcom 'How I Met Your Mother' on Monday (24.03.08) - is considering treading the famous London boards to play ageing 'Southern Belle' Blanche DuBois in Tennessee Williams' play 'A Streetcar Named Desire'.
A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Britney's been on the list for this for some time but until recently was considered too risky.
"Her appearance on 'How I Met Your Mother' changed all that. She had poise, timing and a real flair.
"She may be a bit too young for the role but she is perfect to embody the tragic spirit of Blanche, who uses alcohol to mask her pain."
If Britney accepts the part of the pretentious but insecure Blanche, she will follow in the footsteps of Vivan Leigh, who won an Oscar for her portrayal in the 1951 film adaptation.
Meanwhile, Britney is set to appear at this year's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in Los Angeles on March 29.
A source said: "It's supposed to be top secret, but everyone is already buzzing about it. Her sister Jamie Lynn made such a splash at the event last year, Brit knows that she'll get as much, if not more, attention if she shows up this year." Beautiful Bridesmaid

Jamie Lynn Spears has asked her sister Britney to be her bridesmaid.

The 16-year-old ‘Zoey 101’ star – who is pregnant with her first child with
fiancé Casey Aldridge – is also reportedly planning to tie the knot on
Britney’s ‘Serenity’ estate in Kentwood, Louisiana.



A source close to the Spears family said: “Jamie Lynn is planning to have
the baby at ‘Serenity’, and, soon after, she will also get married there.

“She wants Britney to head her list of bridesmaids, and wants to wait at
least several months to get her figure back so she can wear a beautiful
wedding gown and then have her dream wedding.”

Jamie Lynn – who turns 17 on April 4 – has yet to confirm she is engaged to
Casey, but has been spotted out shopping wearing a large diamond band on her
ring finger.

The source added to America’s OK! magazine: “Jamie Lynn and Casey are
committed to each other and anxious to be the best parents they can possibly
be, and also the best husband and wife they can be to each other.”

Britney to return to How I Met Your Mother?



Hmmm… if this keeps up, people are going to start whispering that maybe she's the mother.

Britney Spears and How I Met Your Mother are looking to rekindle their mutually beneficial relationship later this season. According to multiple sources, Brit's in talks to reprise her role as Barney's fraternal twin Ted's stalker in at least one more episode. "It all depends on her availability," whispers an insider.

Brit's first go-round on Mother was a resounding success for all concerned: The as-yet-renewed CBS sitcom received a much-needed ratings boost and Spears made headlines for doing something other than driving to her local Starbucks.

It's not clear whether this would also signal the return of Brit's boss, Sarah Chalke, whose impeccable comic timing as Ted's crush elicited shock and awe from critics despite the fact that she's been hitting comedic home-runs for seven freakin' years on Scrubs! Get with the program, people!

Anyway, back to Brit: Would you be happy to see her visit Mother again? Or is our little gem of a show selling its soul (again) for ratings? Sound off below!

Pop princess Britney Spears showed her questionable sense of fashion during another day out shopping flanked by dozens of paparazzi and fans.

A more fresh-faced Britney went bra-less again while out shopping on Robertson Boulevard in Beverley Hills yesterday in a plunging black top, ripped jeans and cowboy boots.

And later that evening, Britney was STILL wearing the same tired pair of brown cowboy boots she has worn since the height of her fame, and the unfashionable ripped jeans.

But she teamed them with a white see-through polo neck and bright yellow bra which looked too small for her ample chest.

It is almost a metaphor for her life - that even when Britney does get some support, it's of the wrong kind.

Britney wore the questionable outfit to dinner with three friends at Dominicks but sneaked out of a back entrance at the end of the night.
