Britney Spears is getting engaged tonight!

^^ That was when she wasn't getting treatment and according to some documents ( by her mother) she was being drugged by her ex manager, so anyone in that position wouldn't be able to look after their children properly.

She was investigated by CPS long before Sam Lufti came into her life, and she still got in trouble in family court even after him. If Lufti secretly drugging her was the problem, then once he was gone and the drugs were out of her system she would be fine. But it wasn't, because her mom's allegations were no doubt her denial that Britney was a chronic drug user. I bet Lufti gave her drugs, no doubt, but she was known in the industry as being a drug user for years before that hanger-on appeared. A judge in her custody case found Britney a "persistent drug and alcohol" user, and she was already a mess and on the downhill when Lufti and that paparrazzi boyfriend appeared. One of the times she lost total custody was because she failed to do her court-ordered drug tests, and the whole head shaving incident was rumored to be because she freaked and thought the court would test her hair for drugs. Now whether the drugs caused a psychotic break or something, or she used them to self-medicate her mental problems (like a lot of drug users) we'll probably never know. But there were charges of neglect back even when the first kid was a baby and before the Pink Wig era began.

Britney Spears is not looking after her children like a normal mother would do. Her conservators still make sure that she's not alone with them, and any time they visit her either one or both of her parents (the kid's grandparents) are there, along with (now) Jason Trawick, the kids' nanny, etc. Legally, she can't make any type of decisions for them like medical, schooling, etc. etc. Yes, they visit her and go to her concerts sometimes, and in the past year or so they were allowed overnights at her house, but they're tightly controlled visits. There are people around to make sure that Britney doesn't screw up again with them and put them in danger. Remember that Britney's dad makes sure that Britney herself is never alone - I'm sure the people are there to swoop in and make sure she takes her meds and is removed from the situation if she gets overwhelmed with the kids.

I'll admit it (and I might have before), I adore Britney. I feel for her. I want nothing more than to give her a hug and tell her to tell everyone to eff off and go home to live out life.

I personally think the biggest part of the conservatorship was and always will be to control her finances. Sure in the beginning it was to simply get her under control, but she was spending something like $100k a day and was cut down to an allowance of $1500 a week or something like that.

Ultimately in the end as someone who grew up with the media telling her how to look, act and behave in public but without an actual parental figure around (and without the ability to learn how to think for herself) she's now getting that parenting. I think she finds comfort in that and I don't think she herself has any interest in lifting it any time soon. I also agree about the kids thing, I think at that point in her life she felt that was what she needed to do, so she did it and then realized she couldn't handle it (and her mental illness didn't help). Her children are safe and being cared for and I think she's ok with the fact that it's not her who's doing the main caretaking. And realistically, the girl has a 9th grade education and I honestly don't believe it goes much beyond that - I don't know many 9th graders that can take care of themselves let alone two small children.

As far as this whole situation - I do wonder how much of it is real and how much of it isn't. I've kind of always seen Trawick as her babysitter - if that really is the case she must be medicated out of her mind to not understand what's going on. But I'm not sure how she'd be able to function at shows and such if that were the case...

Anyway, today I'll choose to believe it's real, and I hope he's good for her and I hope she's as happy as she can be.

The children's father has custody. She doesn't look after them, she visits with them. It's a whole other kettle of fish.

Britney Spears and her hubby-to-be Jason Trawick have Kevin Federline's whole-hearted blessing!

Following a famously bitter 2007 split and subsequent custody battle over sons Sean, 6, and Jayden, 5, the pop star, 30, and her second husband, 33, have mended fences -- and now that Spears is ready to wed beau of two years Trawick, Federline is thrilled.

"I'm really happy for her," the former rapper told Australia's TV Week magazine (as excerpted by the Daily Mail). "I think he's a great guy," he added of Trawick, 40, Spears' former manager.

Down Under to film reality show Excess Baggage (Australia's version of Celebrity Fit Club), he gave a great progress report on Spears, who battled dark times following the end of their marriage.

"She's happy; she's doing really well. I want to say she's in a good place," he explained. "I haven't spoken to her much since I've been over here, both of us have been busy with her being on tour, but I do know from talking to the kids and talking to the kids' teachers that they're doing really good."

Federline has also moved on with his own love life: His girlfriend Victoria Prince welcomed daughter Jordan Key in August -- his fifth child overall. (Federline also has daughter Kori, 9, and son Kaleb, 7, with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson.)

"It's really good once you're able to move on with life," he said. "I mean, Victoria's the best person in the world. It took me going through the things that I went through to find a person like her," he gushed of his love.

"She's more than I could ever have hoped for. Hopefully Britney feels the same way."

And Federline added of Sean and Jayden's stepdad Trawick: "He's a really good guy, I've heard a lot about him. . . I've spoken to him quite a few times as of now. He seems like a really good guy. The kids speak highly of him [and] her family loves him."

With that theme in mind, Lane tells PEOPLE he designed from scratch a tiara-motif sparkler with a round, perfect white diamond in a handmade platinum setting that “looks like a mini crown,” the celebrated jeweler says. He also added 90 small round diamonds around the eternity band. “Jason didn’t want an over-the-top ring with a giant stone,” he adds.

Over the last month, Lane and Trawick clocked phone and email minutes as they collaborated while Trawick was traveling with Spears on her global tour. “Texts came from all over the world, from Abu Dhabi, Mexico and I don’t know where else!” says Lane.

But when Trawick stopped into Lane’s Los Angeles store to pick up the ring — less than one week before the proposal! — they both knew the hard work and scheming had paid off. “Oh my god, he loved it,” Lane shares, adding that he could tell Trawick had pre-proposal jitters. “The guy was so excited and nervous. At the end of the day, even with all the fame, he’s still a normal guy who was about to propose to the woman he loves.”

That said, Lane believes this couple is in it for the long haul. “He’s deeply in love with her. Britney is his princess and he is her knight in shining armor,” he says. “Jason’s protective of her. He adores her. Every good fairytale needs a princess, and now Britney has a ring fit for a princess!”

i wonder how much this nail lane person gave britney's daddy before they were mentioned in this people article?

i think this engagement/marriage is just another way of making money (by selling the stories, pictures, etc. - kim kardashian-style).
her crazy dead eyes freak me out.
