Alas, that movie opened right after the phone throwing incident, which btw, if Rusty had wanted to hit the guy in the face, he could have. He's a mean Crickett player and the cousin of two internationally known Cricketers. Those guys pitch HARD and have to be extremely accurate. As it was, he hit the wall beside the fellow, and a piece of it came off and scratched him.

I remember reading a New Yorker piece at the time. It explained it much better than most press accounts. The guy was being incredibly insulting and dismissive to a customer paying 4k a night. Rusty warned him: "I'm coming down there to kick your ass."

That cocky perp walk was a classic.

The Regency is notoriously rude to its customers -- I used to stay there a lot way back in the day and people were always complaining about the snotty attitude and crappy service. Crowe is definitely a jerk at times, but if any place could turn even a mild-mannered person into a nightmare, it would be this hotel. I saw the reception area staff being nice once -- fawning actually -- over Prince Monaco and his spawn.

I am not a Brad Pitt fan but I do like his acting. I do have to say however that if he was that unhappy with the film then maybe he should only do films out of his company where he can run the show. jmo

Sorely Tested Crowe Keeps His Cool

Breaking news! Russell Crowe once again failed to punch someone in the face Saturday night!
In nearly a month of filming "State of Play" in D.C., the famously hot-tempered Oscar winner has encountered all manner of provocations (autograph seekers, cherry blossom traffic, happy hours overrun by lawyers), but by all accounts has behaved like a gentleman. This past weekend he continued to keep his cool in the face of the most obnoxious irritant yet -- a loudmouth who crashed his movie shoot.
The scene was Mount Pleasant, where Crowe's scruffy-reporter character lives. Around midnight, as the crew filmed Crowe standing at a bus stop by tiny Lamont Park, a man burst onto the set, waving his arms and shouting that he could walk wherever he wanted. The man was ushered away and the scene was reshot -- but the guy kept yelling from the sidelines, witness Claudia Lujan told our colleague Sylvia Moreno, so Crowe walked over to him with two bodyguards.
"Man, this is my job, this is what I do," Crowe calmly told the man, according to Lujan. "Do you know how many millions it takes to film these shots and to redo them?" As the star walked away, the heckler exploded: "[Expletive] you, Russell Crowe! [Expletive] my [expletive]!"
That's when news almost happened. Lujan said Crowe spun around and started to walk back -- but his bodyguards reached out and advised the actor to let it be. He did, and police escorted the man from the set.
Lujan, a city policy analyst whose third-floor apartment (above Heller's Bakery and a Guatemalan restaurant) was used as Crowe's pad, applauded the actor's restraint. "He was very 'on,' honestly, talking to the guy calmly. The guy was really obnoxious. I just hope [Crowe] doesn't think everybody in Mount Pleasant is like that.

I could be wrong but to my knowledge not many from his production company. I think the Departed won some awards. Great movie imo

Ooooh no... Russ floats my boat!

He's very very hot! He's got that rough, ruggard typical Aussie bloke kinda thing about him.

And just quietly, I'm very proud to say my hubby looks a damn lot like him!

Brad walked on the movie because he didn't know how long it was going to take for the script to be fixed and he had prior obligations.

Brad Pitt can act, Snatch and Fight Club were killer.

Russell got robbed for The Insider - best character driven movie with the best cast! Then he got the green weenie for A Beautiful Mind in which everyone but the janitor and Russell got the Oscar.. and as Opie said "without Russell there would not have been a movie" He got screwed because of the phone thingy? If he hadn't been Russell Crowe nothing would have happened. He pays 3 thousand bucks a night for a room and can't get a working phone? B/S. We were staying at the Marriott paying a whole lost less than Russell and after we were told our guests didn't have a room after we reserved the rooms 6 months in advance - I wish I had a phone to throw!!!!

Um I don't want a nice Russell, I want a down and dirty Maximus!!

Crowe does it for me.. however he's walked on two movies with Nicole Kidman now because of the script - Hugh Jackman got his part.

Crowe bids goodbye with party for crew

    April 2, 1:02 AM

After filming “State of Play” in D.C. for almost a month, Russell Crowe bade farewell Monday night by throwing his production crew a private party at Spezie Ristorante downtown.

Crowe had met chef/partners Cesare Lanfranconi and Enzo Livia the previous week, when he, co-star Rachel McAdams, director Kevin MacDonald and other cast and crew utilized the restaurant as a home base while shooting scenes near 17th and L streets. Crowe practiced speaking Italian with Lanfranconi and Livia, who were both impressed with his accent.
