I think the weirdest item I've seen promo teams pass out was logo-ed condoms.
It was at a Warped Tour if I remember correctly... It was an odd choice for branded swag, but I appreciated the act's efforts in trying to prevent teen pregnancy at their concerts

I wouldn't trust Leann logo-ed condoms, they would probably come pre-perforated by sketch-ball Leann.

Maybe it's a US thing? I can't think of a concert I've been to where they were not handing out branded items, usually crap, but still free.

I think the website, tees and magnets look well designed. IMO they are fine for a musicians merch. The hats are not especially related to Leann and would probably benefit from her name being stiched on them. But all in all it's on par with merch from many other musicians. She could add something that's iconic for her - like a fringe purse, suede booties or even a bikini. And not onesie pajamas (the Cibrian family tradition). She's supposed to promote herself, not her marriage.

The only problem I have with the site and the merch is, that Leann has talked it up to be much more than it is. It's almost impossible not to be disappointed. It the same with her 'exhausting tour' consisting of three casino dates and a county fair; or the 'Asian leg' of her tour being one date in South Korea; or her exciting record deal meeting that may or may not pan out; or...

She should stop thinking of herself as a world class star, and start working on some new music. Play small gigs at local bars and see what works and what doesn't. There's no shame in being a struggling artist.

Definitely happened more pre-social media/pre-digitial download era...When record labels spent more money on swag/crap to promote their acts, instead of relying on the internet.

Now I feel old *reminiscing all of the pre-social media era concerts I've been to*

Yeah but you would probably be seeing higher profile acts. They do it here at shows too, but I would go to gigs 4 nights a week at pubs and small clubs and they weren't giving away shit, they'd be lucky if they broke even. I was mainly arguing the 99% figure.

    eta this was to sluce.

i don't remember getting too much free stuff at concerts. the only thing i can think of within the past 6 years is an iggy pop concert poster. they were giving it because he was performing on his birthday.

^^ Me neither CZB. And the promo stuff that they do give out for free is generally paid for by the label, or at least that's been what I've seen in my experience. And Rimes doesn't have a label, so.....

Methinks Leann could corner the market on shitty skirts. She already has a sample she could design from!

LOL about the crappy $52 tshirt. Remember when they were decent quality and affordable? My daughter now wears my Springsteen, Stones and Pink Floyd shirts at college and people ask where she got them.

Faithanne - I'm referring to concerts, not club shows. I always got free crap, like magnets, can cozies, posters, etc. They were branded for the act and the radio station that sponsored the show. I do not go to many concerts anymore, but the most recent freebie I was handed was a business card with a code to get a free digital download of a song.

hmmm. there have been a few times when i bought tix through ticketmaster or some other site and they offered me a free digital download with my purchase. i didn't think of those. but that's all i've ever received, aside from the iggy pop poster.

i'm too cheap to spend 52 bucks on a tshirt.
