Actually her great- great-grandfather was a Baron and MP, who himself came from a family of politicians, industrialists and significant landowners (son of a baronet), and was a great friend of Churchill. Not that that makes one 'posh', but it doesn't make one poor either. She also has a degree from Oxford if what I've read is true.....Of course, this could all be lies and part of the Cumby conspiracy

she went to a posh prep school and then oxford (and she did graduate) and she hasn't acted in the past few years because she founded her own theatre company and has been directing.
like wcg said, she could be a call girl for other reasons but i'm not getting that vibe.

Sophie Irene Hunter (born 16 March 1978)[1] is a British avant-garde theatre and opera director, playwright, actress, and singer. She directed Phantom Limb Company's experimental play 69° South (2013), which dramatized the almost fatal voyage of Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton by having performers on stilts manipulate marionettes, the New York production of Benjamin Britten's opera The Rape of Lucretia (2011), the African tour of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Magic Flute (2011) for arts charity Opera for Change and the 2010 revival of Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts at Access Theatre in New York City among others.
Hunter released a French-language music album in 2005 titled The Isis Project in collaboration with songwriter Guy Chambers followed by an English-language album, again with Chambers, titled Songs for a Boy in 2011.
In 2007, she received the Samuel Beckett Award for writing and directing the avant-garde play The Terrific Electric.

Born on 16 March 1978, Hunter grew up in Hammersmith, west London.[2][3][4][5] Her mother, Anna Katharine (Gow), worked as an administrator, and her father, Charles Hunter, was an insurance executive who later became a professional card player; the couple later divorced.[6] She has two younger brothers, Patrick and Timothy.[7] Her maternal grandfather is the General Sir Michael James Gow GCB, Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath, who worked with Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester in the 1950s and was Aide-de-Camp General to the Queen from 1981 to 1984.[8][9] Hunter is a maternal great-great-granddaughter of World War I hero J. E. B. Seely, 1st Baron Mottistone.[10]
    Education

Hunter attended St Paul's Girls' School in Hammersmith before studying Modern Languages with a concentration in French and Italian at Oxford University.[11] After graduating from Oxford, Hunter resided in Paris to study avant-garde theatre for two years at the L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq. She then trained at the Saratoga International Theatre Institute in New York City under the mentorship of theatre and opera director Anne Bogart.[12]

I will give the fans this, they did digging on her career and discovered a lot of those credits aren't what they seem, and it was interesting reading. For example, the Samuel Beckett Award she claims on her Wiki to have won solo was not given to her, it was given to the theater company she belonged to at the time (Boilerroom), and it wasn't to reward the play The Terrific Electric, it was funding to create the play. When the play then debuted it got awful reviews and closed after three weeks.

She was also credited with directing an "experimental piece based on The Rape of Lucretia," never an actual opera. She was called a co-founder of the Lacuna Theatre Company, a semi-well known company, in the press, but it wasn't the right one and the Lacuna issued this statement:

The Lacuna Theatre Company would like to clarify errors in recent media reporting. Tess Zoers is the founding Director of the Lacuna Theatre Company (2013). While actress and director Sophie Hunter had a company of a similar name, there is no connection of association between the Lacuna Theatre Company (2013) and Sophie Hunter. The Lacuna Theatre Company was established in 2013 to raise funds and support the Multiple Sclerosis Society. For further details of our work please see Lacuna Theatre

The Lacuna Theatre Company Sophie Hunter was a part of apparently only did one piece as part of a festival in 2007 and then disbanded.

Hunter does have some real credits, though: she was associate director on the play Enron on Broadway (funded by Harvey Weinstein) but it closed after 16 performances. She translated that on her CV to having been "associate director of the Broadhurst Theatre" which is not true (Enron was the only play she worked on, and the Broadhurst is a famous theater). She was a director on an experimental play that ran briefly at the Brooklyn Academy in 2011 that told the story of Ernest Shackleton using puppets, but that's her last directing credit. She did some bit parts on Brit TV about a decade ago, but her only acting credit of the past few years was as the wife in a car commercial after she hooked up with Cumberpatch.

Popular Guess: Sophie Hunter and Benedict Cumberbatch

This was posted after someone in Tumblr dug out that Sophie shares address with some other dude. Turns out that the data is outdated, the guy has married and got baby. Nice example again how Enty sources his blinds from fan blogs.

I was really surprised to see her in the commercial - I mean, she looks lovely but still. Why did they take her and not some model?

Because her boyfriend is an A-list star and she got the gig through his connections? Or could be of course that there is some evil lizard overlord conspiracy with escorts and Hollywood moguls.

I think main reason I sympathize with her is because I had most awful heartburn through my pregnancy and I looked pissy in every damn picture. I was also cranky bitch so my poor husband looked terrified all the time. I tell you, pregnant ladies are allowed to look pissy, if she still looks sourpuss after lizard spawn has born then I believe that she is just unhappy person.

My pregnant coworker called another coworker a prick to his face today. It's hormones, and it's true, he is a prick, so we make allowances.

not in front of the whole office, but a couple of people. not me though, i wish i had been in the room, but i probably would have burst out laughing. i really hate this guy, he's a lying, sleazy, sack of shit- he's in sales so i guess that sort of goes with the job, but he's bad even for a salesman
