I know, but I'm still
Actually, I'm impressed that fans had the balls to walk out. I like Australia for this!

Agree. I'm glad someone has also got the balls to start outing performers who fake their performances and yet still charge massive fees.

Yep. I mean, the scary thing is that there are some people who were surprised Britney wasn't singing (which makes you fear for the intelligence quota of Australian youth....)
But this is part of a larger issue about forcing tour promoters to be honest in their adverstising.
Putting my law dork hat on for a minute...
The Trade Practices Act prohibits misleading or deceptive conduct in commercial dealings. Products must be adverstised in a reasonably accurate way.
What's the defintion of "concert"? A live performance? Seems a reasonable definition.
But what part of the performance is "live"? The dancing? The singing? Both?
If the definition of a live concert experience is that there should be live music (including singing) and some sort of movement on the stage, then Britney's concerts (and anyone else who lip syncs and doesn't advertise as such) have been advertised in a way that is misleading and deceptive.

And that's the thing that's got the public debate going: advertise it accurately and then let people make their mind up about whether they want to pay somewhere in the region of $200 per person to see Britney dance (badly) and mime to pre-recorded songs, and have no interaction with the crowd.
Think the crowds would've been down quite a bit had there been accurate advertising!

I think part of the 'issue' was that she didn't even have big screens showing her up close. Most people could only see a dot moving around the stage and couldn't see the actual show. So they basically paid good money to listen to her CDs.

See, there's a big part of me that doesn't feel sorry for those people--how could you have hundreds of $$ to spend on tickets to her show and not know or have heard she lip-synchs? She's famous for that. Do your research, Beckys.

It's Britney. Whoever bought tickets thinking she's going to sing live is an idiot.

They should stop calling them concerts and start calling them performances by an entertainer, not a singer per se.

Step right up and see the real Britney Spears, in living breathing reality and probably only from a distance, yes Britney Spears ladies and gentlemen, performing some lacklustre dancing routines, pre recorded singing in a stuidio with all manner of technical dubbing and retouching, step right up folks for the show that will leave you breathless with anger and penniless. Exits to the left right and centre of the building, please, no rushing ....................

I admit, I wanted to see her concert when it was in town. Why? I was hoping to catch some sort of incident like when her weave got stuck in that chair. Itd be like a trainwreck in progress.

It's interesting that this debate is going around the world as "Australia bans lip syncing" - that's not what various government and consumer group types have proposed.
The position being put forward is (in the plainest of Plain English):
1. We don't really give a fuck if you lip sync
2. But we object to you advertising your "live" concerts and charging a shitload for tickets to see you lip sync
3. Please advertise your concerts accurately - mention, if only in fine print, that there will be pre-recorded elements and lip syncing.
It's just about stopping misleading and deceptive conduct in tours, that's all.
