My boyfriend grew up in Salerno.

I think when you live in a country that has certain traditions you usually adapt to those. I can see how you guys would find it weird that things are different over here!

i'm against changing my name out of principle. but also for sentimental reasons: my dad died and i can't imagine not going by his name.
i use 2 last names - my dad's and my mum's maiden name. those were the names i was born with and grew up with and achieved anything i've ever achieved, and the name that's on my diplomas that's been with me for good or bad. i can't imagine changing my identity just because i marry someone.
i'm not putting down women that do change their names but i guess it's one of those things that i just don't understand, just like i don't understand people that are very religious.

^ Funny, my boyfriend just called me and I asked him about that. He said he never heard about that, all his relatives, as well as his parents, have the same family name. Weird. :-)

I agree but that doesn't mean it's for every woman. I like the tradition too.

Assley, if you are living in the past, then a woman should ALSO be married before getting knocked up
No joke!! I love all these asstards who spout on and on about being 'traditional'; you know, the man being the head of the family, etc. Yet, here they sit with 2 or 3 kids by their girlfriends they could never get around to marrying. Then they criticize people like me for cherrypicking the traditions we want to keep and do away with. The cognitive dissonance never ceases to amaze me.

Shotgun weddings are the height of tradition :p
----------------------
I have a family name, and a 'last' (really it's a middle name, but it's used as a last name) that's different than anyone else's in my family (who also have individual last names). It's completely normal for me, i don't think having different last names makes one iota of difference to anything important.

^^ I thought "just because someone is getting married doesn't mean they are pregnant" OK so I was wrong, in Hollywood when you get married it does mean your pregnant or just had a baby.
