There doesnt seem to be too many details about exactly what happened... I could see a mom losing her shit if she caught her 14-year-old daughter have sex with an ADULT boyfriend. I could also see a 14-year-old hatching a plot to get rid of her mother if her mom was trying to keep her away from said boyfriend. I reserve jumping on the bad/abusive mom bandwagon for now...

...Ariel Winter enjoys wholesome day at Farmers Market with her sister as it's claimed her mother was 'overbearing and constantly criticised her'

It's being alleged that Modern Family star Ariel Winter's mother Chrystal Workman was 'an overbearing stage mom' who 'constantly criticised' her daughter and ordered her 'never to leave her side.
The allegations come from a source who - in June 2010 - filmed The Chaperone with 14-year-old Arial and wrestler-turned actor Triple H.
The news came as the sisters looked exceptionally close as they paid a visit to a Studio City farmer's market, pushing Shanelle's daughter along in her pushchair.
Support: Ariel Winter enjoyed a day out at a Studio City Farmers Market with sister Shanelle and her niece Skylar on Sunday
TMZ spoke to a source who revealed that 'Chrystal acted like she was the star of the movie.'
They write: 'We're told Chrystal had her own director's chair and listened to each take on her headphones. After each take, Chrystal would pull Ariel aside to tell her what she did wrong.'
It's also claimed that Chrystal was open with her criticism of the directors and producers too.
She's also alleged to have made use of the production assistants, ordering them to 'fetch her food from Craft Services.'

Feeling fruity: Along with their ice cold treat, the sisters bought fruit and vegetables from the market
But while the source insists that Chrystal was over-bearing and controlling - she apparently wouldn't allow Ariel to leave her side to socialise with the other child actors - they never witnessed any abuse.
Chrystal's brother-in-law told the website that she was controlling towards her older sister Shanelle Gray, now 34, about how she looked and what she ate.
On October 3, Winter temporarily entered the care of her older sister after allegations that her mother physically and emotionally abused her.
Her mother denies the abuse allegations but Gray is seeking permanent guardianship and financial control over Winter.
Matching outfits: The sisters sported black T-shirts, black trousers and blue baseball caps for their trip to the market

Phone home: Ariel clutched her blackberry while attempting to stay low key
Vehement denial: Chystal is vociferous in denying the claims that have been made against her
They sported matching outfits of dark black T-shirts, trousers and baseball caps and tried to stay low key among the attention from photographers and onlookers at the Studio City Farmer's Market.
They shopped for fruit and vegetables and tucked into frozen treats of flavoured frozen ice.
Meanwhile, Chrystal Workman has denied physically abusing her daughter and claims the 14-year-old is lying because her mother would not let her engage in a sexual act with an 18-year-old man.
She claims she caught Ariel in bed 'engaging in behaviour' that she feels was inappropriate for her young age and as her mother, she just wants to protect her.
While Chrystal has not identified the identity of Ariel's 18-year-old boyfriend, she has filed a report with the LA County Sheriff's Department that could open an investigation of statutory rape.
Ariel's mother released a statement on Thursday that said: 'My fourteen-year-old daughter has been dating an eighteen-and-a-half-year-old man, and when I caught them engaging in behavior that I feel my daughter is too young mentally and physically to understand and fully grasp I put a stop to it immediately.'
She continued: 'I love my daughter very much. I would never abuse her in anyway and I have always tried my best to always protect her and do what is right for her.'
She added: 'Because legally he is an adult and if he wants to engage in adult behaviour with a minor than he should also be ready to suffer adult consequences for his actions.' (sic)

LOS ANGELES -- The mother of "Modern Family" actress Ariel Winter sued an associate of her adult daughter for defamation Monday, claiming he
falsely labeled her an "abusive monster" in an online comment about an ongoing custody struggle for the teenage star.
Chrisoula Workman filed the defamation and false light lawsuit against Matthew Borlenghi, claiming his comment attached to a Nov. 9 Los Angeles
Times online story was false and has harmed her reputation.
Borlenghi is an actor who teaches at a studio operated by Shanelle Gray, Winter's adult sister who currently has custody of the 14-year-old actress.
A judge temporarily stripped Workman of custody amid allegations she had been physically and emotionally abusive to the star.
A trial on whether Workman will be completely lose custody is scheduled to begin Wednesday.
Borlenghi said he had not yet seen the lawsuit and declined to say whether he posted a comment about the story on the Times website. The story
centered on Workman's allegations that Winter was having an improper relationship with an 18-year-old actor.
"This is a total falsehood," the comment attributed to Borlenghi states. "The mother is grasping and clawing to find a way not to lose her money-maker,
and hide the fact that she is an abusive monster."
The comment cites personal interactions with Workman for forming the opinions in the post.
"All I can say is that David (Gray) and Shanelle Gray are very close friends of mine and comments that Chris has made are absolutely fabricated,"
Borlenghi said when contacted about the case. "The negative comments she's made about her own daughter in order to try to get custody back of Ariel
are truly disgusting."
Workman's lawsuit includes several pages of sworn declarations from tutors and other friends and associates denying she has been abusive to her
daughter. The declarations have been filed in the guardianship case and may be considered by a judge who has to determine whether to allow Gray to
continue caring for her sister.
A judge said last month that child protective investigators had evidence of emotional abuse toward Winter. Workman has denied she has been abusive
toward her daughter.Guardianship cases in California are public record. Attorneys for Winter's sister requested the case and its proceedings be sealed,
but a judge refused. The case was filed under Winter's birth name, Ariel Workman, in part to avoid attention.
Although The Associated Press does not generally name underage victims of abuse, Winter's name is being used because it is included in the public
guardianship case.
Besides playing Alex Dunphy on ABC's "Modern Family," Winter's credits include appearances on several TV series, including "ER" and "Phineas and Ferb,"
and movies such as "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," "Ice Age: The Meltdown" and "ParaNorman."

Ariel Winter Praises "Amazing" Sister After Mom Loses Custody Bid
Ariel Winter praises her sister via Instagram on Saturday, Aug. 3, just two days after her mother, Chrisoula "Crystal" Workman, was denied custody.
Despite her real-life family drama, Modern Family's Ariel Winter is in high spirits. Just two days after her mother, Chrisoula "Crystal" Workman, was denied custody of the 15-year-old actress, the TV star praised her older sister, Shanelle Gray, via Instagram on Saturday, Aug. 3.
"Happy birthday to the most amazing mister, (sister/mommy) on the planet @shanelle_gray ! I love you so much," Winter wrote. "You have helped me become a better person and grow into the woman I want to be. You are my inspiration. The things you have done for me, I'm honestly speechless. She added, "Anytime I need a hug or a laugh or if I'm just down and need someone, I can just talk to you and I'm instantly better. You've been my best friend, my rock, and will always be my heart. You can always count on me, because it'll always be you and me."
Winter's relationship with her mother has been strained since the young star was removed from Workman's home in November 2012 in light of allegations of physical and emotional abuse.
According to TMZ, Workman recently filed legal documents for custody of Winter, but was denied at the end of July. The actress will continue to live with her sister, Gray, who's been given an extended guardianship over the actress. Workman will have a custody trial in September.

Now Ariel Winter's brother Jimmy Workman seeks custody after claiming sister Shanelle Grey is a bad influence
Modern Family star Ariel Winter's brother is seeking custody of the young star, claiming his sister Shanelle Grey is a bad influence.
Jimmy Workman, who played Pugsley in the 90s movie series The Addams Family, has filed legal documents in Los Angeles in an attempt to wrest control of his youngest sister.
It comes after Ariel claimed the trio's mother was abusive, leading the courts to award her sister guardianship.
Back to court: Ariel Winter's future is up for grabs again after her brother Jimmy Workman applied for custody
According to TMZ, he wants the court to strip custody of the 15-year-old away from Shanelle so he can look after her instead.
Workman alleges his sister a bad role model who sexualises the young starlet, while also exploiting her fame and money to promote her acting school.
The 32-year-old also claims she has a history with drugs, has appeared in public 'almost nude revealing her private parts,' and is having Ariel spend exorbitant amounts of money on a party lifestyle.
He also says mother-of-two Shanelle is poisoning Ariel against her family, her mother Chrystal Workman in particular.
Peas in a pod: Ariel seems happy with sister Shanelle Gray but her brother is alleging she is a bad influence
Previously the court refused to put Ariel back in her mother's care after the youngster accused her of being emotionally abusive.
Shanelle's lawyer Mike Kretzmer said: 'The allegations are nothing new. We will handle them in court.
'Shanelle has taken excellent care of Ariel to date. It's interesting how Jimmy and Chrystal talk about repairing their fractured family, and then make allegations like this.'
A court date has been set for October.
Alone: Ariel's mother Chrystal Workman lost another bid to get her daughter back this month
Earlier this month her estranged mother lost a bid to regain temporary guardianship of the star.
According to the court order, she 'presented no evidence that there were any changes or repair of damage to their relationship.'
Ariel has lived with her sister Shanelle since October 2012 after the starlet accused her mother of being 'emotionally abusive.'

Poor girl, as if being a child star isn't enough to mess with her head, she has her family fighting over her on top of it. Dunno if Shanelle is that innocent she might actually be taking advantage of her little cash cow sister.
Ariel Winter: My mother sexualized me as a child
Ariel Winter hasn’t spoken to her mother in five years, which she believes is “for the best,” she revealed in a new interview.
The “Modern Family” actress told The Hollywood Reporter she was thrust into the spotlight by her allegedly controlling stage mom, Crystal Workman.
Winter accused her mother of sexualizing her as a child, dressing her up in “the smallest miniskirts, sailor suits, low-cut things, the shortest dresses you’ve ever seen. People thought I was 24 when I was 12,” she said. “If there was going to be a nude scene when I was that age, my mother would have a thousand percent said yes.”
The starlet also claimed food was “very, very restricted” and that she wasn’t allowed to befriend other girls “because females are competition — that’s how some people see it.” Her education wasn’t nearly as high a priority as her acting, and other than on-set tutors, she missed the bulk of kindergarten through second grade.
Thankfully, Winter “had a few tutors, and they were amazing.” One of those tutors was on-set teacher Sharon Sacks, who looked out not just for Winter’s education, but also her health.
“I would order a couple lunches in my name so Ariel could eat one of them,” Sacks told THR. “I could tell she was hungry. Boiled chicken and cucumbers isn’t going to do it for a growing kid.” She added, “Her mother kept her out late at night at these ridiculous parties. She was 12 and 13 years old and had to be on set at 6:30, 7.”
Sacks was one of the adults to whom Winter turned when she finally emancipated herself from Workman. After suffering what Winter described as “a really rough period, a really bad chapter,” Sacks reported Winter’s living situation to the Los Angeles Dept. of Children’s Services, complete with a letter from “Modern Family” co-creator Steve Levitan.
Though Winter was prepared to go into foster care, she ended up moving in with her sister, Shanelle Gray.
Winter is eager to embrace her opportunity to pursue higher education (focusing on politics and social justice) in light of what she went through as a child, though she’s reluctant to leave Hollywood to get her degree.
“I definitely want to continue being an actress. I love it,” she insisted. “The reason I’m going to college is because I do want knowledge in another field. College isn’t the college experience for me. I’m not going to be in a sorority, I’m not going to network, I’m not even really going to make my lifelong friends,” she explained. “I’ve had the career experience. I’ve had the experience of taking care of myself. I’m going to college because I genuinely want to learn.”
She concluded, “Even though I wish I had a better childhood, I wouldn’t trade it, because it made me who I am today. I still respect the people that hurt me.”
