Yep, but they've been married for 16 years. She was still bigger in Hollywood (even though she really hadn't had a big movie since Working Girl.) I think he was pretty big in Spain but only had a handful of supporting roles in the U.S.
Maybe he would've made it without her, but I do think his visibility increased when he hooked up with her.

He would've made it without her. By the time they hooked up, he was already pretty damn visible. Hell, if I knew who he was before they hooked up, I'm pretty sure the rest of the world did. He's the one who's kept her crypt-keepin' ass visible. He'd already done several movies that had made him a stand out PRE Melanie (for me) - Philadelphia & Interview With the Vampire.

Melanie does bear a good deal of the responsibility for her behavior. But like I said, when a mother lets her 14 year old daughter fuck and live openly with a 22 year old man, the issues the person in question has clearly started at home. I can't remember the timeline but I know I was shocked and repulsed when I heard they were hooking up. He was superhot and she was a ditzy annoying ugmo with issues. So I agree he would have definitely made it without her, hell maybe even bigger without her, because he alienated a lot of potential female fans (like me).
