I don't think that anyone deserves emphysema; having watched a (step-)grandparent die from it, however, I'm not loosing any sleep over this, and I'm a bit of a fan....

In some way I think it's good that people get to see the ugly effects of drugs. I find it so odd that she's so obviously a druggie and so many are ignoring it.

If she really is HIV+, I'd be surprised if she made an effort to reform her life...

i watched my mom die from Emphysema and Lung Cancer (non smoker) she did everything 'right' and she struggled to live. i watch Amy Winehouse fuck up her life and not give a shit, so i find it hard to give her one ounce of sympathy since she quite obviously doesnt give a shit.
its very frustrating

It seems to me that real talent these days lies in staying sober and off drugs.

I hope she manages to get clean... I really do.
In saying that, I don't feel sorry for her either. When you take drugs your are completely aware of the fact that they are not good for you.

Tonight they (CNN) were quoting Papa Winehouse saying that she was a crack addict. And smoking crack had damaged her lungs to such an extent that she would most likely die if she did it ever again.

I'm a huge Amy fan, but I honestly don't feel sorry for her either. I hate the situation and hope she gets better, but she's a big girl and it's all up to her. She's got the resources, the money, and the support of a loving family-- there's no excuse for her to continue with this nonsense.
I had so much hope for her around the time of the Grammy's. Thought maybe winning all those awards would light a fire under her butt and give her something to be excited about. Unfortunately she seems to have gotten even worse.
I'm still pulling for her, but I don't feel sorry for her anymore.

Ha Ha - I bet this isn't even going to be her reality check!
No sympathy for Amy. She's had all her chances... just a matter of time.

I don't think Amy deserves to have emphysema. I don't think she deserves to die from it, necessarily, either. But I say this, because my grandmother has lung cancer and emphysema from several decades of smoking cigarettes.
But the main difference is, my grandma eventually made the change in her life to quit smoking... albeit too late... but she may have added at least two years to her life by quitting, even with her diagnosis.
Amy hasn't made a change, she never made any effort. She'd just rather be high all day long, than put her voice to good use, and now look where it's gotten her. Amy doesn't deserve emphysema, but at the same time, she doesn't deserve another chance. I stopped feeling sorry for her a long time ago, and while I don't think it's right that she's gotten to this point, it serves her right for not cleaning up.
I don't know. The issue can be a confusing one, when a family member suffers from the same thing.

No, she doesn't deserve emphysema.
And I think she definitely deserves another chance IF she makes the effort to change.

My 66 year old mother has terminal emphysema after 40 years of smoking. I can't believe Amy has gotten sick so quickly. Even if she quits everything now and lives the most healthy of lives, I think she's already done too much irreversable damage.
