She reminds me of other critical darlings who have some backlash against pop. You don't have to have a "beautiful" voice in my book, and you can be strange and odd, but that's all Amy is. She's just as much smoke-and-mirrors as Britney.
Yes, I'm harsh about Amy, but she's ridiculous. I mean, my god. Is she smart? Warm, sweet, generous? No. She's just as much a twat as the other celebutards.
I still think whatever "good" qualities Amy might have possessed are completely gone by now. Right up her nose.

Well, in that case I'm stunned that a professional musician
such as yourself cannot recognize a natural musical talent,
which Amy Winehouse is without a single doubt.
It has nothing to do with her style of music. It has everything
to do with her musical instinct, her interpretive skills, her
ability - when sober - to give stunning live performances,
be it accompanied by a full band or (almost) completely
a capella. Hers is a tremendous, instinctive, musical gift
that not many are blessed with. It's a pity she's such a
troubled personality, that will keep much of her enormous
talent from reaching true music lovers, either because
in her incapacitated state it won't come out or simply
because she'll cut her life short by way of her lifestyle.
But it will be a huge loss for music for sure.

I still say she was faking it as a slap in the face to everyone who has been on her shit about doing drugs, and to the story about getting her hair checked. She did the real drugs backstage.

I find her music to be a rehash of '60's pop, and her pseudo-retro style rather gimmicky. I love artists who are strange and misunderstood and not pretty. I have not found anything true about Winehouse or her music. She cannot perform live, her lyrics are weak, and her music itself is maudlin.
You can question my own musicality, and I know there are some who would say the same about me--I'm not everyone's cup of tea and neither is Amy. I just think she's been hyped to the point of distraction with no real actual substance or talent to back it up. I think we're starved for something real, and when something very Anti-Pop comes along, we drool over it and label it "talent." Is anyone really empircally anything? I don't know. But Winehouse, I believe, is overrated, and just as much as poseur and a preener and a fake as the shiny pop stars we're sick of.
My musician friends--some of them semi-famous--have also stated that they don't understand why she gets so much acclaim. She must have had some amazing PR machine working.
But I don't think you're wrong for liking her. I think she's untalented. That doesn't mean I think your taste is questionable. We hear different things---we like some books and movies and music and food and some we don't and sometimes we agree and sometimes we don't. That's life. I'm not any less of a musician because I think Amy's "music" is crap. You're not any less of a person in my eyes because you like her work.
It won't be a huge loss when she overdoses (because it's really only a matter of time). She hasn't made a contribution or revolutionized anything. She'll only be a footnote. Nobody is really going to remember her, except for the fact that she was a trainwreck.
I'd rather listen to Madeleine Peyroux.

I give her points for originality and moxie.
and let's face it, without drugs, there would be slim pickings for decent music out there. Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, STP, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Sublime, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath...

And I'd rather listen to Madonna over Amy any day, as I like dance music. And I like her voice. It may not be the best in the world, but hearing it takes me to a happy place, and that's all that matters to me. "Talent" to me is just as subjective as anything else. Personally, I don't think Amy is talented, I think she's a waste of potential talent.
I am no more "brainwashed" because I like Madonna than anyone else is who likes Amy. Its all subjective.

Seriously, holy cripes, sweet bearded jeebus, that was HORRIBLE. I just don't think she's very good at all. But people have different opinions. I think we can all agree, however, that soup is good food. Yes?

Houston, I think we have a problem: I HATE soup!
But seriously, you could not be more wrong, but you're entitled to your opinion, bad as it may be.

If you look at her hands you can see she has something in them, she didn't snort anything off her skin but an object did pass under her nose.
How wasted would you have to be to do something like that right on center stage?

She was definitely searching for something in her hair. And then she covers it with her sleeve and then puts it up to her nose.
Nice. Don't worry about even pretending to hide it.

I know I am in the minority here, but I don't think she snorted la coca-cola. LOL. It IS weird though how her hands were above her head for so long.
Amy's voice is so beautiful and she is pissing it all away Makes me so mad.
