She must need one because she would be working, so they would have to issue her a work visa.....an ordinary tourist wouldn't, but they do restrict people with certain criminal records

Troubled singer Amy Winehouse will perform at Sunday's Grammy Awards live after all, via satellite from London.

It had earlier been thought her performance would have to be cancelled after the US government rejected her visa application to attend the music industry's biggest night of the year in Los Angeles.
Winehouse, who has six nominations, second only to rap star Kanye West, is currently in a rehab clinic after a well-publicised battle with drugs.
She had hoped to attend the ceremony, but experienced problems getting a visa after she was arrested and fined in Norway last October for possession of cannabis.
The US government has been making it harder for foreign artists with criminal records to perform in there.
Grammy officials said Winehouse will perform from a London studio. The song was not disclosed, but it will likely be her breakthrough hit Rehab.
The tune, which recounts her reluctance to seek help, is nominated for record of the year.
Winehouse's other nominations are for album of the year, song of the year, best new artist, female pop vocal performance and pop vocal album.
West, with eight nominations, will also perform, organisers confirmed.
He has kept a relatively low profile since his mother, Donda West, died after plastic surgery almost three months ago.
Experts expect Winehouse and West will dominate the awards.
They are competing with each other in only one category - album of the year.
West's other nominations are in the rap field, where he is competing against himself in two categories.
Other nominated performers will include rock band the Foo Fighters, R&B singer Beyonce in a duet with Tina Turner, and rock veteran John Fogerty alongside legends Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis.

She's now been granted a visa but won't be performing live:

Amy Winehouse was all smiles yesterday as she has finally been granted a US visa, however, the singer will not perform live at the Grammys.

The star had previously been denied entry to the US and made plans to perform at the awards ceremony on Sunday via a satellite link from London.

Winehouse and her acclaimed "Back to Black" album are nominated for Grammys in six categories.

Her spokesman said: "Following further discussions involving the US Embassy in London and officials in the United States, Amy Winehouse has been granted a visa to enter the United States of America.

"Unfortunately, due to the logistics involved and timing complications, Amy will not be travelling to the US to perform at the Grammys in person. However, she will be performing via satellite broadcast as previously announced yesterday."

The singer's performance is being highly anticipated as she appears to be going from strength to strength in rehab.

Emerging from a London dentist, Amy flashed a bright white smile to onlookers before being escorted by her father Mitch back to the centre she is receiving treatment in.

This is a far-cry from December when the Back to Black singer was spotted with gaps in her mouth suggesting her teeth had fallen out.

The singer's appearance has greatly improved and with the singer looking better than she has for months

A friend close to her admitted at the time: "She has one missing from the front of her mouth, and another one at the back which is less visible.

"Her mouth is full of holes and she is desperately worried she is going to lose more. She has actually pulled a tooth out herself, which is absolutely disgusting."

"Her gums are always red and sore as a result of it and some of the teeth are loosening."

Rehab appears to be agreeing with Amy in more ways than one.

The singer seemed focused, was well-dressed and had even painted her nails red for the occasion. Amy is granted US visa after all but will NOT perform at the Grammys | the Daily Mail

I think her dad is great. He's really standing by her, making sure she's ok--I imagine it isn't easy but he's in there fighting the good fight. I think he's great.
