I will say this. I think most of us on this board have drank to excess and been drunk at least once. I would also hazard a guess that many of us have tried pot. If you have an addictive personality and the right combination of personality traits, that's all it takes. No one plans to become an addict. Any one of us could be in the same boat, simply because we partied at one time or another. To some, it's harmless fun, to others, it's the path to death. Hopefully that might give someone pause before judging an addict as someone who chooses to do drugs or alcohol.
This is very true. My brother who was an alcoholic for over 30 years got help at a place in L.A. He had to work the bingo hall for his rehab and room and board. He stayed sober until he died 20 years later. If you want help, there is help.
Oh, I offended you with my opinion? You should hear the ones I keep to myself.

I think some people are beyond help with addictions. I don't think that everyone has the internal resources that are required to come back from serious addiction, and get sober. Some do, some don't. Addiction is tied to so many parts of the psyche and the individual's emotions, and generally speaking most addicts are not healthy, stable people to begin with.

It is almost more sad when an addict passes once they are sober. Once they are on their way out of it. Sounds like this was the case of Amy. It reminds me of one of my close friends from high school. He died the night before he was to check into rehab. it just sucks. Its like ripping away the last half of a book, right when you've gotten through the scary part. And you never get to find out how the story ends.

My addict friend said that they all end up incarcerated, dead or hopefully sober.

I can't post the actual article as posting this from my phone. But, bloody hell, all those different drugs.

The rich addicts are actually the wost off, especially if they are famous. If it can't come from within like Russell Brand, them they are almost doomed. Money and hangers on that shove drugs at them. Bad combo.

Courtney Love has shared her thoughts on the tragic death of Amy Winehouse with Rolling Stone. "I'm not even going to say, 'Waste of glorious sublime talent,' which I feel," Love said of the 27-year-old singer. "I'm fucking gutted. I tried with her, I tried twice."
Like Winehouse, Love has seen her private life and personal struggles play out in public most notably the 1994 suicide of her husband, Kurt Cobain, also 27. "We are sensitive, and people around us take advantage of that. It is fucking pain every day and every night."
Clearly shaken by the death of a kindred spirit, Love summed up her feelings simply: "It's so awful."

Courtney needs to shove a knob in her gob and STFU.

    so true.
that was a beautiful tribute by brand and i couldn't agree more - addiction needs to be treated like a health problem, not a crime. i don't know why that is so hard for people to grasp.

Watching all the famewhores, like Love, try to get 10 minutes of airtime for themselves from Winehouse's death is pretty gross.

This blog is lovely, and I like that he urges people to reconsider how society treats drug use (i.e. treat it as a health problem, which it is, and not a crime.)

I'd still prefer silent mourning from people over a spectacle of thoughts, but Russell Brand's blog is amazing. He neither condoned nor criticized Amy, but he did mention how destructive drugs can be and even bothered to promote a program that can help people through it. He regarded Amy with humor, spirit and reverence, but his final message is jarring and true.

I was just making a premise. Of course, dialing up an ex-bf who owns a site of hers would be beyond anyone. So if you feel like dragging me down for it, if you think it's the best thing to do, then I'm gonna say I'll be disappointed.
