A belated horrific cry. I actually had a nightmare the night he died, that he was killed in a public toilet next to our local church, and I was just about to go into the toilets when this strange light reflected off the church and onto me and I just felt like I shouldn't go in, after all home was a minute's walk away, and Brad went in instead and was killed. Disturbed me. He was a small portion of the nightmare (it involved bushfires and my paralysed dog and being trapped and alone), but still, his prescence disturbed me and I woke up feeling very on-edge.
I think he is a beautiful person, from what little I know of him. Never seemed like a bad person as such, seemed to mind his own business and let people be who they wanted, it was just unfortunate with his drug habits, but I'm not going to think about the drugs whenever his name spring to mind. I'll think of the amazing films he's helped create, and the things he's written, and the people he's touched (such as myself). So he did good. And he lived for as long as he was meant to live.
My signature says it all. (Well, sort of)

The last thing I saw him in was an episode of Law & Order and he gave me the creeps. That's how good an actor he was.
RIP

I haven't read this entire thread yet but I totally see where you're coming from. I think the difference is not in men/women but rather how many of their mistakes WE see. For instance, we know Brit is incapable of being a good mother, of making smart choices, of picking friends well, of wearing clothing that covers her bits etc. We see her thumb her nose at everyone who tries to help. It makes it easy for the public to be judgemental and harsh.
On the other hand, all anyone knows of this guy is his talent. He apparently had a kid with some woman in Japan. How do we know he was a good dad? Maybe he was a deadbeat dad who didn't help or see the kid. He's been in jail but we didn't all see the mugshots. I'm sure he's made his fair share of bad mistakes. My guess is, if those mistakes were made public, there'd be less sympathy here.

I don't think he's "getting a pass," it's just that he's passed away now, so obviously the tone is going to be a little more respectful than it usually is. If Amy Winehouse or another female addict died (god forbid, I'm not wishing that on anyone), the tone would change too. Brad was such a good actor and did keep a low profile though, which also makes people like him more.
Also, his mug-shots were released.

he did?! i didn't know that either!
i own most of the movies he's been in and there are quiet some bad ones but also great ones. as sick as it is but bully is one of my favorite movies.
i always thought he will either pull a robert downey jr and make it or more likely he'll die very early. it's so sad that it came that way
