Marcia Cross bans her daughters from eating junk food
Marcia Cross won't allow her children to eat junk food.
The Desperate Housewives actress - who has two-year-old twin daughters Savannah and Eden with husband Tom Mahoney - says she'll only let her girls eat healthy food.
She tells People magazine, "I keep them away from junk food. They don't know about cookies yet so everything they eat is healthy. They've had a bite of an organic cupcake for their birthday but it's always healthy foods - especially now before they find out about junk food.
"Recently both my daughters were sitting on the steps in our home, and one of them said, 'Let's talk about it mamma.' I thought, 'Where did they learn that?' Then I realised it was from me. I thought, 'Oh my God, what have I done to them at two years old?'
"They are big talkers. They happen to be very verbal girls and I think that comes from me. It's wonderful that they can tell me what's going on with them and have conversations. I just love it. When we go to the park one of my daughters will say, 'The dog scares me mamma.' It's great, I know exactly how they are feeling."

I always vowed to myself that when I had kids, I too would keep them as far away from junk food as possible (that is obviously until they were old enough to make the decision of what they want to eat) to help guide them to make healthy choices and so that they wouldn't go through what I went through as a child (being teased for being chubby because all I ate was junk food) but the more I think about it...life's too damn short.
Let kids be kids! Let them eat chips, cupcakes, candy, pizza!
Also I wouldn't want to set my kids up on the road to an eating disorder like I've had to deal with for so many years.

Whatever fucking happened to moderation? It's a simple concept folks.

Her kids can't eat cookies because they aren't healthy, but she can shoot her face up full of Botox?

Wait until she's on a long trip and the kids are screaming from hunger and suddenly, on that long and lonely dark road the golden arches appear like a beacon in the night. You bet your ass she'll be screeching into the drive-thru in 2 seconds flat.
That said, it's good to keep them away from junk food as a general rule, although treats once in awhile won't hurt anyone.

If you're too restrictive it could backfire. I've seen this happen.

You can make cookies that aren't total junk. It isn't difficult.
The problem with 'healthy' foods is that often they are high in fibre as well. Fibre can fill a small child's appetite too quickly, so they might not get enough calories. A decent homemade cookie can be a source of concentrated calories and that isn't a bad thing.

I agree, everything in moderation.
My youngest is the EXACT same age as her girls---and honestly, my girl doesn't really like junk food (at this point). I give her healthy food, lots of fruit (which she loves) and maybe once in awhile a cookie. But honestly, she doesn't ask for it, so, no biggie.
Now the 5 yr old is a different story. Oy vey!!

Well, she said they don't know about cookies and junk food yet. If they're seeing all their friends eating cookies and start wanting some, she should allow it in moderation, but if they've really never tried it or seen anyone else eating it, then I don't see the harm in not introducing these things to them yet.

It did for me! I grew up that way, no junk food in the house and was a very healthy kid, but once I got to college and got to feed myself and eat all the stuff I wasn't allowed to, I went a little nuts.
The upside is, healthy eating patterns laid down as a child tend to stick with you. Once I got over the fun of eating whatever I wanted, I went right back to eating well, but allow myself fun food once in a while with no guilt.

I think it did with me a little. My mother is the Grand Poobah of healthy eating and didn't keep junk in the food while I was growing up or feed it to me. As a result, I would go overboard when I was away from the house and combined with my natural propensity towards being fat, I gained a shitload of weight. It took me YEARS slogging away to get it off, and I can't really slip for more than a weekend or I'm in trouble.

^ That is sad. They don't even get b-day cakes.
It's not like they have to eat this crap all the time, but I think restricting them too much is taking away part of their childhood.
If they are children that are active, they should be able to burn right much off anyway.
