    Matt Dillon was arrested overnight!

    The actor was busted in Vermont for speeding - a lot.

    State Police stopped Dillon on Interstate 91 in Newbury. He was reportedly traveling 106 miles per hour.

    He is due in court next month to answer to a charge of excessive speed.

    Matt Dillon's year is ending with a pop -- as in popped for going way, way over the speed limit in Vermont.

    Law enforcement sources tell us Dillon was pulled over going over 100 MPH on Interstate 91 in rural VT, and had to be arrested because he was going so far over 65. We're told if he'd been doing 80-90, he could've gotten by with just a ticket. Instead, cops hauled him in for a little finger-printing and picture-taking session.

    He was charged with excessive speeding and released with a citation.
