Default Alanis Morissette reveals she was raped and abused as a teenager

Alanis Morissette has admitted she was raped and abused as a teenager.
The Canadian-born singer-songwriter and actress has written an autobiography in which she makes the revelations.
She said: Im writing a book that will tell my life story. It details some of the things I have experienced and the abuse Ive suffered.
I was the victim of statutory rape and this book will help me get rid of the feelings of shame.
The abuse was also the reason for her angst-filled songs on international debut album, Jagged Little Pill. The record is the highest selling debut album worldwide in history.
She has previously revealed she suffered from anorexia and bulimia after being told at the beginning of her career she wouldnt be successful if she was fat.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror, she once told how shed had lesbian relationships after dating a 29-year-old man when she was just 14, and spoke of her experiences with drugs.
My addictions were work and food, she said. I smoked pot once in a while, but Im too much of a control freak to be a drug person.

i hope the book helps just one person, but in the same thought, why do these celebs write these books?

It's their way of portraying themselves as 'ordinary' people. Many celebs have a need to show whatever bad things happened to them in the past, I feel as a way of garnering sympathy, to show that they are "real" like you and me, and also to show that they deserve whatever financial successes they have achieved. I know this is a cynical way of looking at it but you know me.

Also, isn't the headline a bit misleading? I'm not saying that she was not in an abusive relationship, but statutory rape as I understand it is based on a consensual sexual relationship, quite different from forced rape. I assume that's what most would think.

“I was the victim of statutory rape and this book will help me get rid of the feelings of shame.”
ie, consensual underage sex? A bad idea for sure but nothing to feel "shame" about unless you want to throw a pity party for yourself and sell a few books too.

You can't do that on television.

So, this statuatory rape sounds like it was with Dave Coulier. He is 15 years older than her. I didn't realize she was only 14 when she started dating him. Definitely creepy.

I think the song she wrote about him was 'You Oughta Know' from album 'Jagged Little Pill'. Then her follow-up album was 'Under Rug Swept'.

Here's lyrics to 'You Oughta Know'. ALANIS MORISSETTE LYRICS - You Oughta Know I'm definitely hearing her pain.

they might be both about him?

sorry not under rug swept...the song was called hands clean

If it weren't for your maturity none of this would have happened
If you weren't so wise beyond your years I would've been able to control myself
If it weren't for my attention you wouldn't have been successful and
If it weren't for me you would never have amounted to very much

    Ooh this could be messy
But you don't seem to mind
    Ooh don't go telling everybody
    And overlook this supposed crime

We'll fast forward to a few years later
And no one knows except the both of us
And I have honored your request for silence
And you've washed your hands clean of this

You're essentially an employee and I like you having to depend on me
You're kind of my protg and one day you'll say you learned all you know from me
I know you depend on me like a young thing would to a guardian
I know you sexualize me like a young thing would and I think I like it

    Ooh this could get messy
But ooh you don't seem to mind
    Ooh don't go telling everybody
    And overlook this supposed crime

We'll fast forward to a few years later
And no one knows except the both of us
And I have honored your request for silence
And you've washed your hands clean of this

What part of our history's reinvented and under rug swept?
What part of your memory is selective and tends to forget?
What with this distance it seems so obvious?

Just make sure you don't tell on me especially to members of your family
We best keep this to ourselves and not tell any members of our inner posse
I wish I could tell the world 'cause you're such a pretty thing when you're done up properly
I might want to marry you one day if you watch that weight and keep your firm body

Ooh this could be messy and
Ooh I don't seem to mind and
    Ooh don't go telling everybody
    And overlook this supposed crime

We'll fast forward to a few years later
No one knows except the both of us
And I have honored your request for silence
And you've washed your hands clean of this
