Default Peaches Geldof's first magazine column sparks a hail of abuse

Poor Peaches Geldof's fledgling magazine career has got off to a devastatingly bad start.
The 19-year-old has suffered an unprecedented wave of hate from thousands of readers who panned her first ever column for a New York magazine.
The website of fashion mag Nylon was besieged by a barrage of hateful comments from readers this week, who were appalled at what they claimed was her 'arrogance' and 'pointlessness'.

Panned: Peaches Geldof's attempt at journalism has been savaged by readers
Peaches has begun writing a column about her life in New York since moving to the city to live with her new hubby Max Drummey.
But her debut thinkpiece left a sour taste in the mouth of Nylon readers.
The magazine was forced to delete hundreds of the hurtful comments from its website, only to find hundreds more left in their place by incensed punters.
More than 1,000 had been left within the first three days.

One comment, apparently left by British columnist AA Gill, said: 'The banality is shocking. Get some life experience, keep your head down and until you do, save us from this insipid, vacuous social commentary that justifies the dislike of you.'

Her column, which at the very least is easy to read, includes gems such as: 'My best friend here is a boy named Bunny. We spend our days traipsing around Manhattan - him in skin-tight plaid trousers, huge geek glasses, and a mass of red hair sticking out haphazardly from beneath an Amish-style hat.'

Newlyweds: Peaches and her husband Max Drummey, pictured at a New York party earlier this month, have been married for 10 weeks
Another extract reads: 'America is a strange place, a place of contradictions, but a place that never fails to change one’s world view.

'I am constantly surprised by this huge country - each state tells a different tale: It’s like a never-ending novel with each page more exciting and bizarre than the last.'
She is also hoping to land a place at New York's prestigious Columbia university after getting two Bs and a D in her A'levels.
Last week, Peaches revealed she had only been dating Max a week when they decided to wed and wasn't expecting their marriage would last forever.
She told Heat magazine: 'You can’t ignore divorce rates. Every friend of mine has parents who are now divorced.

'I didn’t go into it with Max thinking, "This is going to last forever", but I did go into it thinking, "I love him right now and I know that I will continue to love him for a long while."'

I'm not familiar with 'A levels' but 2 B's and a D ain't gonna get you into Columbia, honey. Call Palin's people.. I'm sure she can refer you to a school or 5.

I don't know anything about her, but the article came across as pointless, arrogant, and self-indulgent. BUT from this criticism I was expecting a lot worse. Apparently she is not well-liked, so that might explain the harsh critiques.

If this is the kind of competition I'll be up against when I finish journalism school... bahaha, I'll have no problems!

Seriously, that column was so shit and dull it's vaguely painful. 15-year-old emo schoolgirls write LiveJournals with more insight, wit and skill than that.

Well, I've certainly read worse...but I've read a hell of a lot better, too! Honestly, if Nylon had to get a19-year-old in to write a column, couldn't they at least find one with something a little more important or insightful to say? Her's is a story that's been told a thousand times before, by people far more talented than she...people whom Peaches has probably plagiarised.

It is very badly written; it's full of clichés, boring, completely lacking in insight, and just doesn't flow. I wouldn't have expected any better from Peaches Geldof.
