The drama continues for Dark Knight star Morgan Freeman.
Days after he was involved in a serious car accident, Freeman's business partner says the actor and his wife of 24 years, costumer Myrna Colley-Lee, have called it quits.
Mississippi-based attorney Bill Luckett tells Access Hollywood the couple "are involved in a divorce action."
Luckett adds that "for legal and practical purposes, [Freeman and Colley-Lee] have been separated since December of 2007."
See photos of more shocking splits.
The couple met in 1976 when both were working off-Broadway.
Freeman has four children: Two from a previous marriage, two from previous relationships.
The news comes as Freeman is recovering in a Memphis hospital following his car accident Sunday. His rep said the actor is "doing well" after doctor reconnected nerves and repaired damage to his left arm and hand on Monday.
He is expected to be released in a few days.

Well, that came right out of left field. Never saw it coming.

Perhaps the partying with a female friend and subsequent crash with her in the car prompted the disclosure.

How weird, just after the accident. Something tells me he was cheating on her.

I read the women in the car with him was his wife's long time friend. Maybe not such a good friend though. It was her car he was driving - a 97 Maxima.

Maybe.
It's kind of funny because with anyone else people would be thinking cheater, and with him everyone was saying that it was probably a family friend or relative.

I heard about this right after the accident. They were probably trying to keep the divorce quiet, and then the accident happened, so they had to explain why the other woman was in the car, so people wouldn't think he was screwing around.

That's because no one want to mess with God! You know Morgan would press the 'smite' key on his keyboard and all the gossip hags would disappear!

Hmmm...the plot thickens.
How sad to see someone getting divorced at age 71 though.

Wasn't their a blind item several months ago about him being a serial cheater?
I love the man as an actor. But I do not know the man in his private life. Can't say I'm really surprised about the divorce though.

I love his voice so much...... Shawshank Redemption got under my skin because of Morgan, so I don't care what he does in his personal life.

I have to admit that I first thought he was cheating when I read about the passenger and how he was driving her car. Why keep your separation a secret like that?

I wonder the same thing. Actually my friend who just finalized her divorce waited to start anything or be intimate with other men. I asked her why since she knew for certain that her ex was doing it all over town and she told me she was "old fashion like that". Legally she was still married, but in every other way she wasn't. IMO If one of you is physically and emotionally out of the relationship, then there is no relationship.
