Balthazar Getty's affair 'devastating' to family

In the wake of Balthazar Getty's announcement that he and his wife Rosetta have separated, friends say Rosetta was "blindsided" by her husband's affair with Sienna Miller.

The Brothers & Sisters star announced that he and Rosetta, 38, had separated in a statement released Monday. The announcement came after photos revealed Getty, 33 and Miller, 26, cavorting in Italy, including many of her topless.

Now pals are bristling over comments from Getty's camp suggesting that he and Rosetta had been living separate lives for some time before his relationship with Miller became public.

"Balthazar and Rosetta were in no way separated when Balthazar began his relationship with Sienna Miller, and any implication otherwise is an absolute lie," says a close friend of the couple. "Balthazar's affair has been utterly devastating to Rosetta and her family."

Sources close to Rosetta – who last year launched high-end women's clothing line Riser Goodwyn – insist the separation Getty mentioned in his statement is not legal. They say Rosetta, 38, has been "blindsided," and learned of the tryst not long before the pair were photographed kissing on Italy's Amalfi coast.

Earlier this month the couple reunited in L.A. for son Cassius's eighth birthday. "Rosetta felt it was important that the whole family be there," says another friend. "They made it as comfortable as possible for Cassius, but it was extremely uncomfortable for her."

The Gettys married in 2000 and have four children, the youngest 9-month-old June Catherine.

Well, the news part of it is that it contradicts the reports from Sienna's friends that Getty's marriage was over for a while. Since Us Magazine has been publishing just the Sienna/Getty PR side of the story, I think the wife should get equal time.

I completely agree with you! I meant no shit in that if I discovered by reading in a magazine that my husband of 8 yrs had been having an affair I'd be devestated too.

Sorry. I'm a little touchy because I keep reading "well, if they were separated, what's the big deal?", but the only people who ever said that the marriage was over were Sienna's friends. Even Getty didn't have the balls to say anything other than "we have separated" (well, duh!), but stayed away from any mention of when.

No, it was Balthazar who said it. She says they weren't seperated.

Actually, it wasn't even Balthazar. It was Sienna's friend. The only statements B. Getty made were the initial denial then his "official" statement, which never says anything about when they separated.

EXACTLY! I take all the "friend" sources with a grain of salt. If I ever found out one of my good friends went to the press, I'd kick their ass for not giving me the opportunity to make up a few good stories first.
