June 24th, 2008

A representative for Amy Winehouse has hit out at claims the singer is battling emphysema, saying that her father’s comments were made “out of concern”, but are not the truth.
Tracy Miller, Winehouse’s U.S. publicist, told The Associated Press on Monday (June 23) that, “She is not diagnosed with full-blown emphysema.”
In an interview with the U.K.’s Sunday Mirror, Mitch Winehouse was quoted as saying, “She’s got emphysema. It’s in its early stages, but had it gone on for another month they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there like an old person with a mask on her face struggling to breathe.
He added, “With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes, her lungs are all gunked up. There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She’s got 70 percent lung capacity.”
His comments made headlines around the world with some websites stating Winehouse “could be dead in three months,” however Miller said that she hopes to perform at Nelson Mandela’s birthday concert in London’s Hyde Park this Friday.
