Problems between NFL quarterback Tony Romo and singer-actress Jessica Simpson were a direct result of Jess’s father, Joe, telling Tony to drop agent Ken Kremer of Creative Artists Agency and hire Joe in Kremer’s place, Us Weekly reports.

That would have given Joe, who once famously made a crude remark linking his daughter’s popularity to the size of her breasts, control of Tony’s Dallas Cowboys career and his $65.7 million contract.

Joe also offered to publicize Romo’s engagement to Jess and get top dollar for Tony and Jessica’s wedding photos. How romantic.

Joe defended his actions, even though they apparently led to a significant cooling between Romo and Jess.

“It’s unfair to criticize me for what every manager does for his or her clients,” Joe Simpson told Us. “And in this business, where people can quickly turn on you, who better than a parent to be working for his children?”
