Default The Osmonds have a family get-together in Britain

We knew we loved them for a reason. Twenty-seven years after they last sang together in Britain, the Osmonds are back.

And this time they've brought the whole family.

The years have added more than a few pounds, wrinkles and grey hairs (with 39 children between them that's hardly surprising).

But the dazzling Osmond smiles are still there - despite braving their fair share of family tensions and jealousies over the years.

Alan, 58, Wayne, 56, Merrill, 55, Jay, 53, Donny, 50, Marie, 48, and Jimmy, 45, obviously believe the family that plays together stays together. Or maybe they just want to make the most of the Osmond franchise as it marks 50 years in showbusiness.
The family are performing a series of shows around Britain where their fans can sing along to hits such as Love Me For A Reason and Crazy Horses - the songs that made them international superstars in the 1970s.
Jay Osmond said it was an important time for the band. 'We truly want this tour to be a great big thank you to all our fans for their love and support through the years,' he said. 'We've all performed in the UK many times, but to be back performing together, for the first time in 27 years, is going to be a special thing for all of us.'
The Osmonds made their name in the 1960s as a quartet - featuring the talents of Alan, Jay, Merrill and Wayne. But there was much more where that came from. When younger brother Donny joined the group in the 1970s, with his heartthrob looks and sweet voice, the Osmonds' popularity soared.

They sold more than 100million records worldwide. However, cracks began to appear when Donny started a solo career and also teamed up with his little sister Marie. The pair landed a primetime entertainment show in the U.S.
Then their youngest brother Jimmy got in on the act, with his own solo hit Long-Haired Lover From Liverpool. The Osmonds officially split up in 1980 amid reports of infighting, jealousy and financial problems.
The family was also left close to bankruptcy after losing a £ 40million fortune because of bad investments. Over the years, illness and personal tragedy have also had their way with the Osmonds.
After his solo career nosedived in the 1980s, Donny had a nervous breakdown and was later diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.
Both Marie's marriages failed and she has talked openly of her problems with post-natal depression.
The family patriarch George Osmond died last November aged 90. Their mother Olive died in 2004. There are two older Osmond brothers, Virl and Tom, who are deaf and do not perform.
While the family did three shows in Las Vegas last year, their Belfast show this week was the first time the seven have performed in Britain since the mid-1980s.
'After all these years we snap right back into the same old routines. It really is like riding a bicycle,' Jimmy said.

But what have the Osmonds been up to since their glory days of the 1970s? Here, we take a look at how they've turned out:
    Heyday: The Osmonds in 1980

    1. JAY, 53

Drummer. While the others battled for the spotlight, he carved out a career behind the scenes. A coproducer of The Donny and Marie Show in the 1970s. Married Kandilyn Harris in 1987 and has three children. After the band split, he retrained as an estate agent with Osmond Real Estate, the family's property firm.

    2. ALAN, 58

'Big Al', as he is known to the family, is the 'father figure' of the group. He was in the quartet who were regulars on the Andy Williams television show in the U.S. He dated Karen Carpenter before marrying Suzanne Pinegar. They have eight sons, who now perform as The Osmonds - Second Generation. He has multiple sclerosis and performs only rarely these days.

    3. DONNY, 50

Heartthrob of the band. Joined his brothers as the lead singer in the early 1970s before embarking on a solo career. His biggest hit was Puppy Love in 1972. By the time he was 25 his music career had faltered. After the Donny and Marie Show finished he found some success in musicals. He married childhood sweetheart Deborah Glenn in 1978 and has five sons.

    4. MARIE, 48

Never part of the band but a country singer in her own right. Turned down the role of Sandy in Grease because she did not approve of the film's moral content. Now sells dolls with her company Marie Osmond Fine Porcelain Collection Dolls. She is the only one of the family to be divorced. She married Stephen Craigh in 1982 and had one child before divorcing three years later. In 1986, she wed record producer Brian Blosil. They had two children and adopted five more, before divorcing last year.
    5. MERRILL, 55

Lead singer before Donny stole his thunder. Married Mary Carlson in 1973 and has six children, four of whom work as missionaries. He now sells teddy bears on the QVC shopping channel and makes inspirational CDs on 'life management'.

    6. JIMMY, 45

'Little Jimmy' Osmond isn't so little any more. He is best remembered for his solo hit Long-Haired Lover From Liverpool, a Christmas number one in 1972. He married Michelle Larson in 1992 and has four children. Appeared on I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2005. He came fourth.

    7. WAYNE, 56

Lead guitarist known as 'Crazy Wayne' because of his tendency to stop the show to tell jokes. Married former Miss Utah, Kathlyn White, in 1974 and is a father of five. Qualified as a pilot at 16. Has fully recovered after surgery for a brain tumour ten years ago.

    Wtf was wrong with Grease?

She would've made a horrid Sandy anyway, so she did the film a favour.

Aaaaah, The Osmonds..... My first crush ever was on Alan Osmond,
when I was 8! He used to be quite good looking, before junk food
and MS destroyed his looks. # 2 was Donny.
Before they started whoring themselves out, they were a decent
band. Great vocal harmonies and very good musicians. Each one
of the brothers plays about 6 instruments. And before they became
mushy, they made music that bordered on hardrock! (which was my
favorite period of theirs: loud, heavy music accompanied by great
    vocals).
My favorite album of theirs is still The Plan (1974) and "The Last Days"
probably my fave song on the album.

    The Last Days

Nations take up their battle stations
    Patrons of Zodiac revelations
    Lustations breaking family relations
    Litigation allowing shoot-up sensations

    That's what they said
    Someday it would be
    Now just look around
    If that's what we see
It's gotta be the last days
    Gotta be the last days

    People living lives of confusion
    Millions caught up in revolutions
Cities lost in their own pollution
    Question what is the constitution

    That's what they said
    Someday it would be
    Now just look around
    If that's what we see
It's gotta be the last days
    Gotta be the last days

Traffic In My Mind was cute, too:

I got traffic in my mind, yeah
Don't know which road to follow
I got traffic in my mind, yeah
    I'm all alone flying solo
I got questions lookin' at me
    Answers tryin' to find me
    Everybody tellin' me what they
    don't know
I got traffic in my mind, yeah
Don't know which road to follow

I see blind men leading blind men
And tellin' us how to make it.
    I get better answers watchin'
some little kid trying to fake it.

So tell me who am I
    Why am I here
Where in heaven's name am I goin'
I got traffic in my mind, yeah
Don't know which road to follow

So tell me who am I
    Why am I here
Where in heaven's name am I goin'
I got traffic in my mind, yeah
Don't know which road to follow
    Which road should I follow
Don't know which road to follow

Is there enough room on that little island for all those Osmonds and all that teeth?

Ugh, from the 1975 photo, I can understand why Donny was considered the "cute" one from that crop of inbred abominations.

Donny and Marie have good agents. Seems like they're all over the tube these days, much to my chagrin.

The second from teh right and the second from the left used the same self-tanner. And damn, I always forget the teeth until I see a picture of them all together.
