From what I've heard, Perez Hilton routinely tries to out closeted celebrities -- a famous case being Neil Patrick Harris, who actually came out after being mentioned by Perez Hilton.

I don't know if Perez's jokes about Metcalfe came across as jokes or another attempted outing.
