Usher opened the two-day free festival
R&B star Usher left Kent festival goers unimpressed after shouting out "hello Manchester" to the packed crowd.
The singer was opening Radio 1's Big Weekend festival in Maidstone, Kent, when the blunder happened, prompting some audience members to boo.
The rest of the 29-year-old's set went without a hitch as he performed some of his biggest hits and new material.
About 20,000 people arrived at the festival at Mote Park, which saw Madonna headline the first night.
The event is the biggest free ticketed music festival in Europe and has previously been held in Dundee and Preston.
Revellers made the most of the hot weather and basked in the sunshine as they watched acts including Robyn, The Feeling and Scouting for Girls perform.
Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman said she was "really happy" to be attending the event. "There's a really nice atmosphere around the place. You can't ask for better weather. It's phenomenal," she said.
