Meryl Streep is Julia Child — First Picture!
Thu, 08 May 2008 at 10:16 pm
Here is first look of Meryl Streep as Julia Child from the upcoming biopic Julie & Julia.
Here’s the movie’s plotline via Wiki: Frustrated temp secretary Julie Powell ( Amy Adams) embarks on a yearlong culinary quest to cook all 524 recipes in Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She chronicles her trials and tribulations in a blog that catches on with the food crowd. The film also covers the years Julia Child and her husband Paul ( Stanley Tucci) spent in Paris during the 1940s and ’50s, when Paul was a foreign diplomat who was eventually investigated by Sen. Joseph McCarthy for alleged communist ties.
Julie & Julia is currently filming and is slated to be released in 2009. The film is based on Julie Powell’s memoir Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen. Directing is Nora Ephron, whose film credits include Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail and Bewitched. Dave Annable ( Brothers & Sisters) and Mary Lynn Rajskub ( 24) also costar.

Erm, Julia was also a spy for the OSS (precurser to CIA) If they left that out of the screenplay then they missed an opportunity to make this a very interesting film. Otherwise, not so much.

This is why Meryl Streep rocks. She looks like Julia Child! And I know she will play the part to a tee, as usual.

Oh you know she will. Meryl is the best mimic in Hollywood, tho Cate Blanchett in I'm Not There gave her a run for her money.

Does anyone else remember Dan Ackroyd as Julia on the old SNL's? Great stuff

witchcurlgirl I spent about 10 min trying to find that video somewhere to put it up ... can't find it.
First thing I always think of when I hear Julia Child - "Oh, now I've done it - I've cut the dickens out of my finger"

WOW, she looks a lot like Julia, though I'm not surprised, considering her enormous talent. I wonder if she gained weight for the role, or if that's just makeup.

I am a rabid fan of food blogs and I especially like blogs focused on cookbooks [I collect them - cookbooks, not blogs. lol]. Anyway, I've heard a bit about the Julie/Julia Project over the years. Out of curiosity, I looked it up and this is what I found.
The Julie/Julia Project
If you click on the month under the calendar in the sidebar, the blog goes back month by month. I looked at it briefly and I wasn't impressed. I don't care for her writing and there are no pictures. A food blog with no pictures is a sad thing, imo. I really can't believe this was optioned for a book. I really can't.
Just for comparison ... here are two other blogs based on specific cookbooks. The first one is finished [I followed it from the beginning and she really did cook every single recipe!]. The second one is in its third year and is a work in progress.
Cookbook: How To Eat by Nigella Lawson - because the url automatically goes to the most recent page, this is the end of the blog, but if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you can click back and see the older entries.

I liked Julia, she was hilarious and her voice was part of what made her funny. "I like catsup on my French fries, the French don't - oh what do the French know?"
Meryl comes off as a diva but I have to give it to her, she earned it. She really is a good actress, the best we have today.
I like Amy Adams!

Meryl a diva? Why, she's the most placid seeming actress in Hollywood! She seems like the type who if you ran over her foot with your car she might say "Sorry I got in your way"!
