Default Gretchen Wilson graduates from high school at 34

Country music star GRETCHEN WILSON has finally gained her high school diploma - at the age of 34.

The Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter dropped out of school in her native Tennessee during ninth grade (age 14-15), but has now passed her General Educational Development diploma after taking the exam in April (08).

Wilson will don a cap and gown for a graduation ceremony on 15 May (08).

And she admits her seven-year-old daughter Grace was the main reason she decided to finally finish.

She says, "I certainly don't want her (Grace) to think you can be this successful without an education."

Yeah, Grace is 7 - she can read already & you think she won't be figuring out that Gretchen just got her GED??

Bt, she DID become successful without an education. I think her daughter would be able to realize as some point that she got her degree AFTER she was successful. How is that a lesson on education?

I'm sorry. Getting your GED does not necessarily make you an "educated" person!

    But good for her, anyways!

I don't get the hate on this one. She did something good for herself and is trying to set a good example for her child. Maybe she didn't do it 'right' the first time around, but we all have to make course corrections now and again.

    ^ I know. And that's great.

I just have never thought a GED is really worth anything. Just IMO

I don't think a GED is worth the paper is written on either, but she's trying and its good for her self-esteem, so mucho kudos.

Good for her for doing it...

But I think her "reason" for doing it is kinda weird...lots of people have become successful without an education, and lots of people have become successful who have an education.

I think it means a great deal for a person who has established themselves as a successful star to still show that education, however remedial, is still important.

She's telling her daughter that money isn't everything. I appreciate that.

No a GED actually is okay. There are uber bright kids who want to graduate early and hit college so they take their GED. My sister had some issues her senior year, got her GED, and got into law school without any problems a few years down the line. If you want to get into Harvard- probably not. But for the average Joe, they are okay.

Great for her. She didn't have to get one, but she did it for herself, and her daughter.
