Portishead Slam Prince Over Coachella Festival Addition

Portishead have attacked pop star Prince just a day before both acts are due to perform at the Coachella Festival in Los Angeles.
As previously reported, Prince was a late addition to the festival – which runs from April 25th-27th – following poor ticket sales.
But his introduction has angered Portishead, who are due to play just before him on Saturday (April 26th).
“It was gonna be us and Kraftwerk, which was amazing for us to play with Kraftwerk,” Geoff Barrow told BBC 6 Music.
”Then I knew the tickets hadn't been selling well for the concert, so they put Prince in.
"Prince is gonna turn up with a forty person entourage. With the sound men not allowing us to soundcheck, then you end up with this horrible situation where you're playing to a shed load of Americans without a sound check” he said.
Barrow added that for Portishead, a studio band, the eventual situation could be “awful”.
"We've actually hired another two people just to make sure the sounds good... just to fight in our corner,” he added. I like Potishead but I don't understand why they are kvetching about this - don't they have their own sound check people? And was does Prince and his entourage have to do with their sound check?

Is there no one running this festival?

And who the hell would put Portishead, Kraftwerk and Prince in the same show?

Geoff seems to be a little crumudgeony, if you know what I mean. I keep up with his blogs on MySpace, and he's a funny guy. I think I can understand the apprehension with somebody as big as Prince, though.

I live three miles away from Portishead, it's the town that Geoff grew up in. I always get a kick out of seeing that little dormer town mentioned in the international press!

so true.

prince is a legend & i think he goes well with the coachella lineup. i recall people bitching when madonna did coachella a couple of years & they were saying a lot of the same things that they are saying about prince this year. me thinks some of the more indie bands on the lineup are just jealous or put-off that there are huge performers there, too.

Prince is the name selling most of those tickets, so Portishead should be damn grateful that there are gonna be a shitload of people getting a chance to hear their music who might otherwise never pay to see them.
