Hayden Panettiere was 'tortured' by bullies

Heroes star Hayden Panettiere has revealed that her success as an actress led to her being bullied at school.

The actress found fame at an early age, starring in soap operas One Life to Live and Guiding Light in the 90s. She is now best known for her role as cheerleader Claire Bennet on the hit US superhero show.

"At school I was teased a lot because I was an actor. They used to be awful," Panettiere, now 18, explained. "I went through a big period where I was tortured at school. Absolutely ripped apart.

"It was very hard for me but I think it made me a stronger person and I'm glad that it happened."

Hayden recently admitted that she finds it hard to deal with the "intrusive" behaviour of the paparazzi in Los Angeles.

These young celebs are sure shrewd aren't they? They're taking every cue in the book on how to garner sympathy and respect, 101.

Usually these types don't start claiming child abuse or some other woe is me tragedy until they are, let's say, mid 20's or so.

I find it hard to feel sorry for Hayden, because I don't think she has a clue what it feels like to really be bullied. Bullies usually save their cruelest treatment for the shy, overweight, or socially awkward. Maybe I'm way off here, but I doubt the pretty actress making big bucks really sufferred anything close to "torture".
