Damian Lewis: 'Hugh Laurie is not the first to crack the US'

Damian Lewis is surprised at the amount of attention Hugh Laurie receives for his success in the US.

Lewis's own work across the pond includes starring roles in 2001 war series Band of Brothers and current NBC show Life.

He pointed out that Laurie, who found fame in the US in medical drama House, is not the only British star to have cracked America.

Contactmusic quotes him as saying: "English actors have been successful on US TV for years. Hugh is not the first to be successful in LA and he will certainly not be the last."

Laurie recently claimed that the UK "slammed" the door on him after he landed a role in House.

I love Damien Lewis, he was great in Band of Brothers.

Hugh Laurie needs to shutith thy mouth he might want to go home one day... take a page out of Alan Rickmans book, he manages to work here and live there and not piss off anyone.

Really have no idea who this guys is.

Sounds like he is envious. I think Hugh does a great job on house, I didn't even know he was British until I read it on gossiprocks!

I had no idea who he was either until I stumbled on his show Life. It was love at first sight, and one of the only shows I'm looking forward to in the fall.

I don't want to do the midnight chacha with Rickman but I love to hear him talk.

I've only see Laurie in the Phoenix movie with the airplane and he sucked, actually the entire movie sucked. I'm not into medical shows, I try to stay away from anything dealing with hospitals... ackkkkk

^ I only really remember him from Stephen King's "Dreamcatcher" (one of my favorite movies. He was the cripple friend - Gary 'Jonesy' Jones - of Thomas Jane, Jason Lee, and Timothy Olyphant.

And I didn't even know he was British until now, but I think he is just trying to correct the assumption that some in the UK "shun" Laurie.

Damian Lewis and Hugh Laurie are friends. In fact Lewis and his wife Helen McCrory recently purchased Laurie's London home. It was Laurie that Lewis called for advice when he was offered the role of Detective Charlie Crews in NBC's LIFE. This is just another case of the tabloid media taking a comment out of context and trying to make it into something else. Don't be taken in; it's just nonsense.
