Salma Hayek Won't Christen Her Baby Daughter

Salma Hayek has chosen not to baptize her baby girl after clashing with her own parents' religious beliefs when she was a child. The actress' producer pal Felipe Fernandez del Paso recently spent Easter with the Frida star and has confirmed little Valentina Paloma won't be christened.
He tells PeopleEnEspanol.com, "The little girl is about to turn six months old. She's beautiful. Salma doesn't want her to be baptized because she just doesn't feel like it."
Hayek, 41, was raised in a strict Roman Catholic household in her native Mexico. Her parents sent her to a Catholic boarding school in Louisiana, where she was expelled for playing pranks on nuns.

Ohhh, this is NOT going to go over well in Mexico and Latino America in general. Guess she's not planning on selling anything there anytime soon.

Well I guess she was already pretty unconventional by having her kid out of wedlock anyway. But still I can't imagine how many Mexican grandmas must be clutching their rosaries over this one.

I admire her for it. I was never baptized because my mother thought I should decide for myself what I wanted to believe in.

    Salma kind of rocks.

I was baptized but it has had no effect on my beliefs today. I think a lot of people do it for their families and the fact that it is expected in Christian communities. I probably won't baptize my children because I have no religious beliefs, but to each his own.

I am interested in the backlash she will receive from the Latino community. They do not look highly upon things like that. My youngest cousin who will be 4 in August, was not supposed to be baptized because her mother did not believe in it. Well my grandma was not having it and told my uncle(her son) that she would disown them if the child was not. Yeah I know old fashion grandma's, got to love them.

Go Salma.. My inlaws are Colombian and they actually asked what would I do about my baby going to hell.(if something happened). Pretty fucking stupid if you ask me. God would send a baby to hell for not having water dripped on their head?? ridiculous.

^ I don't understand people that think you have to be baptized to enter Heaven. Do they not think about this.......

Jesus said to the thief on the cross who repented "Today you will be with mein paradise" (Luke 23:43).

This thief was neither baptized nor partook of the Lords supper, he believed and was promised to be with Jesus.

^Thank you for pointing that out, Sweetie.

Salma has my respect for not kowtowing to her family's beliefs, and showing she doesn't give a damn how it affects her career in her native country.

I wish people would mind their own business and focus on their own lives. How does Salma's decision not to baptize her child affect other people in the world? It doesn't.

LoL – I wasn’t Christened either because my mother’s side was Catholic and my father’s side was hard core southern Baptists – so they thought I should decide for myself. I grew up respecting both religions in their individual households.

My father thought the same for things like piercing baby’s ears. You shouldn’t take that choice away from them, they should be able to decide they even want one and should also be able to remember that moment.

Good for Salma. Christianity (or Catholicism) isn't the only religion in the world either. People shouldn't let it dictate their life.

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.

Salma's got a pretty good head on her shoulders, especially when it comes to making decisions. Religon or not, when it's regaurding her child, people must respect that.

What religion is the baby-father? Is he catholic too? Or something else?

She is quite "unconventional" for what I know of her culture, more power to her!
