Jim Carrey: 'Jenny's Son Kept Us Together'

Jim Carrey's relationship with Jenny McCarthy would have been doomed for failure if it wasn't for her autistic son Evan. The Mask funnyman credits the five-year-old for making their relationship work, after he realized how strong the blonde former model has been while dealing with her son's illness.
And the 46-year-old insists his partnership with McCarthy forced him look to at life in a new light - stating his ready-made family has finally ended his fear of commitment.
He explains, "Jenny and I are into the same things spiritually and creatively. We're easy with each other. She once told me how hard it was to have a relationship when you have a child with special needs, but I don't think we would be together if it were not for Evan. That's what I was attracted to - this other person who is like a champion. The scariest thing in the world for me was relationships, serious commitments to people and responsibility."
He adds, "Now I realize there's a long-term benefit to understanding someone and not writing them off."

But wait, didn't Jenny claimed to have "cured" her son???

I actually like Jim and Jenny together, but I got kinda peeved with her stance on autism and how she now knows everything about it b/c she's done research.

I like that he wasn't freaked out by her son...that means a lot. Good for them.

^ I vaguely recall hearing something like that. And I think it was around the time my local public school system was trying to shove down my throat that my son was "mildly autistic"...

I do adore Jim for his active interest in Jenny's son, he and Jenny seem like they make a good team.

Yeah, I was happy she was bringing some things to the forefront, but a little peeved that she was now an "expert." (autistic son here, too.)

I do like them together, and I found my son was a good test for my now husband.

I'm glad he learned from her strength. It's beautiful to see that he accepts them both and cares for them deeply.

Yeah, my current husband is actually better with him than my ex-husband. He treats him more like a "normal" boy than his dad does... I kind-of see Jim Carrey like that, too.

My Dad has always been a big fan of Jim Carey so every time a new movie came out he'd have a 'movie night' with his grown kids. LOL.

I like Jim, I don't find him pretentious or arrogant at all. I imagine he's just very normal, with the exception of a massive bank account. They seem happy together, and it's nice to see he has a commitment to her son too.
