Dolly Parton Wants To Cook Possum & Squirrel For Martha Stewart

Dolly Parton wants to teach America how to cook her favorite Southern food. The Tennessee native is proud of her roots and the cuisine she grew up eating so now the 62-year-old wants to share her secret recipes with the world.
And Parton is tempted to take her recipes onto lifestyle queen Martha Stewart's daily TV show.
Describing her dream menu to website AOL Music, Parton says, "I'd fry some green tomatoes... something greasy and definitely something Southern. Maybe some possum or squirrel. Can you imagine doing that to Martha Stewart? 'Here's how cook a Parton Pie, Martha, you've gotta put some sweet potatoes and bacon grease...'"

I've eaten squirrel. My grandmother stood on the front porch and shot it out of a tree. This was at my great-grandmother's house in the woods in East Texas. Then she made squirrel and dumplings. Hate to continue a cliche, put it really does taste like chicken.

Squirrel is actually pretty good. Possum I won't touch. I won't eat a raccoon either. Alligator, deer, rattlesnake, water moccasin, and other cute little friends of Bambi better beware though!

Hahah! I was on a date one time and the guy was disappointed because there wasn't squirrel on the menu...I knew we had no future right then. If anyone can make it good though, I bet it would be SPAM She is every where these days.

Maybe they could even get Britney's uncle Roadkill Willie in on the act. I'm sure that he has all kinds of recipes.

Squirrel or possum couldn't taste any worse than muskrat which is fine cuisine to some in my town. But I kinda wonder if Dolly really ever cooked either.

Besides haute cuisine is all in the name: for instance pigeon is called squab! So you just have to come up with some fancy name for squirrel or possum, like 'road veal', something like that. Stuffed with acorns, and roast in the appropriate sauce - maybe something in a mild honey garlic, they could be yummy!

It's doubtful, but I bet her mama did.

Wonder how many squirrels it took to fill up 12 kids at supper time?
