Paul Stanley: 'Bands Are Failing Fans'

Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley has accused modern day rock bands of failing to provide their fans with value for money at concerts. The frontman has hit out at the "useless and pathetic" bands who charge fans high prices for concert tickets, but fail to perform a decent gig.
He says, "Good economy or no economy, we have no intentions of stopping. We gave up doing this for money a long time ago, we love it, but we still get paid. Rock and roll is in a pathetic state. Bands think they can get up on stage and strum their guitars and then download it - it's useless and pathetic."
"We're sick and tired of seeing bands getting up on stage and not giving value for your buck."

^ I can, The Tragically Hip.

I went to see them headline at Another Roadside Attraction, they blew monkey chunks. G Downie sat on a stool and strummed/sang, stopped for 2 seconds between every song to thank the crowd quietly. Only stood up once, to sing New Orleans is Sinking (shaddap, it was BEFORE it actually did) he should have just cancelled if he were that tired.

Didn't even do an encore, not that I cared, I refused to listen to their music for years I was so pissed. At least Los Lobos and Sheryl Crow made the $50 worthwhile.

That's odd, usually The Hip are pretty good about that sort of thing

Damn! I'm shocked about the hip too.

I gotta say I've been really lucky. All the bands I like are actually talented and kick ass live!!!

Kiss never failed me in concert but Paul acted like a jack ass at this art gallery showing. Guess I shouldn't care since I didn't buy any art.

Wow, that is shocking about The Hip. They usually put on a great, animated show with several encores. Everyone has an off day I guess.

I haven't seen that many live concerts - Ani Difranco was great, though she had a broken foot so she did play that show seated. Counting Crows with The Goo Goo Dolls kicked ass, and the sound quality was fab for that one too, which made me so happy. The Hip were great both times I saw them.

I can see his point though, I've heard plenty of stories about some really disappointing Nirvana concerts (I've heard some really shitty live recordings of them too), and I'm actually kind of glad I never got to see them live because it might have ruined them for me. I've heard some stories about various lead singers being wasted or stoned that sounded like they would have been really lame too.

At least concerts are a one-off though. What really lets me down is when a band can't deliver for an entire album.
