Natalie Portman Says Tobey Maguire Made Her A Vegan

March 11, 2008 - Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire
Tobey Maguire made Natalie Portman become a vegan.
The 'Star Wars' actress, who was already a strict vegetarian, was put under pressure by the actor on the set of their upcoming movie 'Brothers' to take up a diet completely free of animal products.
Natalie said: "I was around Tobey Maguire in rehearsals and he's vegan and I was eating this energy bar, which was really nice. I'm honest about caring about animals. You know, eggs and milk products, there's a lot of animal discomfort in that, too. I don't know if it's a permanent thing."
Natalie, 26, says she first become a vegetarian because she didn't want to eat a kosher diet.
The brunette beauty - who was brought up in a Jewish household and went to a Jewish school - told Marie Claire magazine: "I used to bring non-kosher food in my lunch bag and my mom would make me lie and say I had tuna when really it was non-kosher chicken salad. I hated that, so I said, 'I'm a vegetarian.' It was my out."

Cool, can he make me one too, with a side of asparagus?

I love asparagus. I don't understand the whole no eggs or milk because of animal discomfort; there are options available but that involves reading labels and shit.

She is so stupid. Does she not believe in breast feeding because of the discomfort it puts on mother? Does she not believe in child birth because of the discomfort it puts on mother? The more she talks, the more I don't like her.

^ ah see, now the argument there is that a human can CHOSE to breastfeed, whereas a cow is forced to first give birth, has it's calf removed from it's presence, then machine milked incessantly until milk production goes down, then it's killed. BIG difference.

Oh, I'd like to change my order to a Bhuddist Burger, make me one with everything.

Vegans correct me if I'm wrong but I think the animal discomfort related to eggs and milk come from all the hormones that the animals are pumped with to maximize their egg/milk production. To that end, I think it may actually behoove humans somewhat to avoid all those hormones that end up in the milk and eggs too.

But I still can't imagine giving up dairy and baked goods! And no way am I going to make sure everything is I put in my mouth is egg- and milk-free! That's way too much good food to avoid.

First off ... a strict vegetarian doesn't eat eggs and dairy products. A strict vegetarian is someone who eats a vegan diet, but doesn't necessarily adhere to a vegan philosophy. Otherwise, she was simply a vegetarian.

Dairy cows and mass-produced poultry and laying hens, in North America at least, are the products of factory farms, which as I've mentioned in other threads are agri-businesses whose bottom line is to produce the greatest profit as cheaply as possible. There are few government regulations regarding the welfare of the animals or for the people who work there. Conditions are often horrendous.

Every time she speaks, I'm struck by how incoherent she is. It's like she's incapable of understanding and conveying basic cause-and-effect relationships in a narrative. It could be bad editing in the article, but in every single interview she gives? It's worse than Scar-Jo, who's ignorant as fuck but at least can structure her worthless ramblings about her tits.

Funny there is no mention of the amount of animal discomfort Tobey Maguire's horrible acting brings.

I know. She annoys me too. I'm a vegetarian and she makes me want to staple a rasher of bacon to the lapel of my jacket.
