Default Heidi Montag's step brother dies in accident

The stepbrother of "Hills" star Heidi Montag has died in a freak accident at a hotel where he worked in Colorado.

Eric O'Hara, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, died a month after his discharge from the Army after falling off of an icy roof.

O'Hara was working at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel Thursday, helping to remove snow from the resort's roof. According to the Rocky Mountain News, he had just released a safety clip he was attached to so he could move along the roof when a piece of ice broke loose and he slid down the sloped roof and fell over the edge.

Heidi's father Bill married O'Hara's mother Terri.

That is sad news and an awful way to go.

Now for the snarky side of me...

when can we expect Heide and Spencer to make a video about this?

I love how they have to throw in "a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan". Who cares.

^^^ Maybe they put that in there to show respect for how he served our country. Maybe it was to show that while she is a lazy talentless bitch he actually got his hands dirty and worked for a living.

    ^ Yeah, maybe.
I'm just not patriotic. They CHOOSE to serve their country and they do get paid for it.

I think supporting the troops right now though is more about trying to apologize to them for what Bush has done. They sign up to serve and are paid as you say. However, they agree to fight for our freedom when it is threatened. Instead they are being killed and damaged for life because Bush lied and started a war instead of actually going after Bin Laden. Many young people got all patriotic and rushed to sign up after 9/11. They had no idea their Commanader in Chief was a liar who willing to sacrifice them like this.

^ Yeah, I agree with all that and I understand it, I just don't have a patriotic bone in me. I just can't feel sorry for people that know what 'could' happen when they sign up.

A hotel with safety clips? I hope there's an inquest, because I used to work at a swanky resort, and all the money goes to guests, guest, guests, not safety gear.

I'm guessing you've never had anyone close to you serve in the armed forces. People like you....never mind, it's not worth it.

But that is a fact. They choose it. They get paid for doing a job. That whole "defending our freedoms!" crap is so bunk, it's just a soundbite. When was the last time the US was invaded, and who would do it now with thousands of nukes at its command?

    Hmmmm nobody.

The only reason a military exists is to promote national power across distances.

Militaries are a great idea for peacekeeping, but beyond that (unless you live in an area surrounded by nutjobs, ie: balkans or africa or middle east, there's really not much of a point to them.

Please let's not have a fight over who is patriotic and who is not. My brother and many others serve and risk their lives to make sure everyone has the right to free speech. They would be the first to say Sweetie has every right to express her opionion.

It is the custom to mention military service in death notices.

It's not a political thing, it's like saying "he was a doctor, or he was a police officer"
