Pregnant Angelina Jolie is continuing her tour of the Middle East — going from Amman, Jordan, to Iraq’s capital, Baghdad.
In an interview with CNN this morning, Jolie, 32 — who was not traveling with beau Brad Pitt or her children — said she felt compelled to come to the war-torn region to bring attention to the plight of refugees.
“I felt I had to come here because it is very difficult to get answers about the internally displaced people,” she said.
“This trip is to get a better picture of the internally displaced people and to discuss with the local government, with our government ... and with local people, the situation and try to understand what is happening,” she added.
“I don't have the answers, but I know that this is one thing that needs to be addressed and solved because there does need to be a real presence here to help count the people and register the people.”
She is expected to hold a press conference today to talk about her meetings with the US Commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, as well as Iraq's minister for displaced people, Abdelsamad Rahman Sultan.
One topic she likely won’t address: Her pregnancy. Jolie dodged questions from a CNN reporter.
“Oh, don’t. Stop it,” she told the reporter when asked about pregnancy reports. “Stay true to your tradition. You're CNN. Don't do it!”
Correspondent Arwa Damon replied, “I had to ask!”
Jolie: “But I don’t have to answer, OK?”
