On first glance, the chilling stare, peroxide-blonde hair and snow-white skin are unmistakeably that of convicted child-killer Myra Hindley pictured in the same woollen coat she wore for her 1965 mugshot.
But on closer inspection, the mouth is noticeably more of a model pout, and the face prettier - as the person in the picture is revealed as supermodel Kate Moss. And Myra's evil partner Ian Brady is unveiled as her former paramour Pete Doherty.

Notorious celebrities: Model Kate Moss and Pete Doherty have been superimposed on the chilling mugshots of moors murderers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady by artist Russell Young as a commentary on the hedonism of celebrities
Child-killers: The original pictures of Myra Hindley and Ian Brady taken in 1965
Wild things: Kate and Pete, pictured at Glastonbury in 2006 before they split, have wild lifestyles
Moss, who last week celebrated her 34th birthday with an 18-hour wild party, has chillingly been turned into one half of the notorious moors murderers by Yorkshire-born artist, Russell Young.
And Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty is shown as a babyfaced Ian Brady, Hindley's partner in the infamous crime spree.
Images of the celebrity couple were superimposed on the original mugshots using computer technology and then printed on canvases with alternate gold and silver sheens.
The pictures were exhibited at the London Art Fair in Islington, North London, where many onlookers were convinced they were the original depiction of the moors murderers.
Now all four images have been sold by the Bankrobber gallery for what is thought to be £28,000.
The work is meant as an observation on the self-destructive hedonism of some of Britain's biggest celebrities.
And both Moss and Doherty, who have been photographed taking cocaine, are the perfect embodiment of that.
Artist Young, who is married to actress Finola Hughes of General Hospital fame, described the image as his "ultimate picture, the perfect storm, a perfect combination of fame and shame".
Double take: Kate Moss and Pete Doherty depicted as murderers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady | the Daily Mail

I don't think the slack-jawed, glazed expression was much of a challenge for Pete.

Why would anyone---ANYONE---do this. It's sick. SICK SICK SICK. Those two people murdered children for sh*ts and giggles.

Erm. Hm. I don't get the point of that, it seems quite wrong... but I do admit it made me laugh for a second.

I don't think they agreed. I think he just took two photos of them, digitally manipulated them and slapped 'em up in a gallery. I kind of like the idea behind them.

I dunno. I mean, Hindley and Brady were two monsters. Monsters. It's not clever and it's not funny. It's extremely disturbing and horrific.

Monsters have always been depicted in art. Stalin, anyone?

Yes, I suppose so. ....Hindley and Brady's crimes were so gruesome.....I mean, all monster's crimes are gruesome, but serial killers of children? That's.....I don't know.

An artist called Marcus Harvey did a monochrome painting entirely composed from a child’s handprints.
As the artist has said, ‘The whole point of the painting is the photograph. That photograph. The iconic power that has come to it as a result of years of obsessive media reproduction.’
It was vandalised and had to be put away.

I don't see how someone can compare two people who committed horrible crimes to two dumb celebrities. It's disgusting that an artist would cheapen what their victims went through and call it an artistic statement.

I've never even heard of these murderers before. And I HATE saying this, but Kate Moss and Pete Doherty aren't that bad.
On another note, I've never even heard Pete Doherty's music. Is it good?

I suppose that you COULD say that by glamourising drug use Kate'n'Pete are killing children too, although it's a bit of a critical longshot...
Pete looks a bit Eraserhead there...

Just because you don't get it or it's not to your taste doesn't make it wrong.

I generally agree that just because someone calls himself an artist, he may not do whatever the hell he wants.
I don't mind these pictures, but I think this whole "It's art, therefore it's right", has been taken a bit too far. I'm specifically referring to the child pornography vs. art thread we had a while back.
This is harmless, IMO. As Butt said, monsters have been portrayed in art since the existence of art himself. How many pop art portraits of Hitler are there, for instance? Mao? Stalin?
If I were Kate however, I'd sue this chap.
