But in his taped acceptance speech, Phoenix nodded to the ongoing writers' strike – which forced producers to retool the show – by using cards to broadcast his message. "I'm speechless without the writers," his cards read. "Seriously. But in my own quiet way, I want to thank the millions of fans that voted for me for favorite leading man." The actor then mumbled a quick "thank you" at the end of his printed message.

I liked his speech.
at least he saved eveyone's time & ears by not wasting time to thank the mail guy, the grocery store lady, god above all things, mum & dad for beeing so supportive ..that sort of shit. he was original in his own cuckoo way, I like it.

I was half-watching it last night, and he might have said "thank you" at the end but I swear he said "what's wrong with you people" as he got up and walked away.
It was funny, but strange.
