Stars Won't Shine on Golden Globes
Posted Fri. Jan. 4, 2008 7:47pm by Megan Lynn Filed Under writers strike
The fate of the Golden Globe Awards was thrown in to question today as actors announced that they would not attend as long as the writers are on strike.
The bold decision to bail on the event means no evening gowns, no borrowed jewels, no glamorous updos -- no red carpet. Even worse? It could mean no show all together.
In a statement, Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg spoke on behalf of nominees such as George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and Julia Roberts, writing, "There appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross WGA picket lines to appear on the Golden Globe Awards as acceptors or presenters. We applaud our members for this remarkable show of solidarity for striking Writers Guild of America writers."
The show's organizers have made numerous attempts to dissuade writers from picketing their January 13 awards ceremony, in hopes of salvaging the show's star power. Now that they have been rebuffed for what appears to be the last time, the only thing that may be able to save the event is if NBC decides not to broadcast it.

Ya know...I may very well be in the minority but here's my 2 cts worth~
I have not missed the lack of new shows due to the writer's strike on TV one iota. Quality TV programs, for the most part IMO, have gone downhill steadily over the years. I don't know what type of pay writers currently receive nor how their employment packages are set up but the whole industry is out of whack. Actors/Actresses receiving $100,000+ per weekly episode for their craft or in the case of films multi-million payments, is simply absurd. Then fold in the pay received by the directors, producers, marketing firms, etc. They are not working tirelessly to save mankind from illness or worse...or educators imparting knowledge on those who will one day lead our governments, etc~
Yes, they are being paid what the market will bear (I suppose) but perhaps we are the fools supporting their demands by paying $100 monthly cable fees or $10-$15 ticket prices at the theatres.
Playful~
The Golden Globes as with the rest of these awards shows are so boring, it doesn't matter if they show are not.

I am glad that no one is attending these stupid award shows, its seems that they are all about what everyone is wearing rather than the awards themselves...
Oh noes!!!!!! No Golden Globes! Whatever will we do??
I'm going to miss critiquing the gowns! However, I think it's great that the actors are supporting the writers.
I smile because I have no idea what's going on
Would anyone even watch anyways? Those awards shows are so lame, I just check in the next day to see what people wore.

i agree there's probably more crap on tv than there was before but at the same time, i think over the years, the number of really good tv shows has steadily increased though mostly thanks to the great shows on cable. and it does suck that writers aren't paid much because they do more for shows than actors or producers and get so little credit for it.

those award shows are painfully boring anyways, who cares about a bunch of self congratulatory celebrities in overpriced gowns?
Eh, whatever. I usually just like to watch for the fashion, wacky celeb outbursts and/or gossip.
Mischief. Mayhem. Tattoos. Soap.
They know which side their bread is buttered on. Writers are shit on in Hollywood but at the end of the day, actors need them to make them look like they're even halfway clever.
