Brendan Fraser and Wife's Marriage Crashes

Brendan Fraser, star of "The Mummy" movies, is splitting from his wife of nine years, Afton Smith, his rep said in a statement.

"They continue to maintain a close and caring friendship," said Fraser's publicist Ina Treciokas. Fraser and his wife have three children, and have been married since 1998.

How sad.. I always thought the way he proposed was a really sweet way..

While vacationing in Paris, Brendan Fraser resolved to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Afton Smith. Too shy to pop the question directly, Brendan forged a cunning plan: He would pin a note saying 'Will you marry me?' inside his jacket. Then, as he and Afton posed for some self-timed Polaroids, he would open the jacket so that she would see it when the pictures popped out. Unfortunately for Brendan, things did not exactly go as planned. The camera misfired, it fell over, the light was wrong, the note was too small... Happily, everything worked out in the end. Eventually, Afton spotted the note in one shot and, thinking it was a stray price tag, opened Brendan's jacket... just as he was crouching down to pick something up; Afton read the note with Brendan already kneeling, the proposal was complete, and the couple were duly married.

Sad. If my 2nd child would have been a girl, I was going to name her Afton. I mourned the fact I would never get to use it. I had a boy (who I wouldn't trade, of course).

Anyone else here thinking there was a Blind Item recently about an actor who had been married for awhile, with kids....and he had found himself a new..BOYFRIEND?

LOL! Lynnie - I get the "my ex-husband looks just like him vibe" and that kind of over-rides everything else (which is a shame really as I quite liked the mummy, etc)

I always thought he was gay, too. I didn't even know he was married.
