As the shock of Jamie Lynn Spears' teen pregnancy dissipates, questions of responsibility and blame have landed on her mother and manager, Lynne.
"Jamie wanted something different for her life, and her mom put her in situations she didn't want to be in," Alexa Nikolas, Spears' Zoey 101 costar, tells Us Weekly in its new issue, on newsstands now.
Unanimously, multiple friends and family say Jamie Lynn never wanted to be a star. "She never cared about celebrity," says one old family friend. "She preferred Kentwood [Louisiana]."
Meanwhile, says a family friend, Lynne "treats her girls like a piggy bank."
Indeed, as soon as Jamie Lynn, 16, confided in her co-manager mother, 52, about her unexpected pregnancy, Lynne convinced her introverted daughter (to the displeasure of her father) to break the news to the world on the cover of OK! magazine.
"Lynne knew OK! would pay the most," a source tells Us. "It was her decision."
Which is why even Jamie Lynn's older sister Britney was kept out of the loop. "They didn't want her to screw up the deal," a family source tells Us. Instead, Lynne shared the news with Britney's ex-husband Kevin Federline.
From the start of Britney's career, Lynne, a former school teacher, made certain she received a percentage of money off both her daughters' deals, Us reports.
"Lynne got all her money through those girls and loved it when it started rolling in," a source tells Us. "She's the only one with a Land Rover in Kentwood."

Who in the hell lets their 16 year old daughter live with her boyfriend? I'm not saying that's what caused the pregnancy, but
WTF? And Jamie Lynn being a minor, you know she probably won't see a dime of that $1 million.

I've always really disliked - and always will dislike - the responsibility of Britney's actions being placed on Lynne's shoulders... but it's something that needs to be looked at when she's had two fuck-up daughters while she's been playing mom-ager and raking in the dollars.

I think it usually does go back to the parents. If you're involved in your kids lives, you know what's going on. If you truly cared about them, there's no way you'd allow your 16 year old daughter to live with her boyfriend. To say there'd be nothing you could do to stop them is ridiculous.
Parents are too concerned with being best friends with their kids or in this case, sidestepping being a parent in favor of cashing in on them. The best thing you can do for your kids is discipline them. They may hate you in the moment, but they'll respect you for it and realize you were right one day. IMO, it was only a matter of time before JL followed suit. Neither girl has ever been parented.

While I'm not calling Lynne mother of the year by any means, I seriously doubt she spread her legs open and said, GET PREGNANT, chica! It will rake in the dough!

If true, maybe Jamie saw the pregnancy as her only way to gain control of her life...get out of her show, and go back home.

Screw that, JL wanted to be a star, I myself have heard her on TV telling everyone she was going to be bigger than Britney. Also, shut up JL! Did your mom make you live with a 19 year old too when you were underage? Please. Though I am sure LS loves being secondhand to all of that money that's probally true...
I agree, however, I think Lynne is an opportunist. She appears to take any given situation, and spin it for maximum exploitation.
Giving a tabloid a paid exclusive discussing your 16 year-old daughter's pregnancy is about as low and trashy as it gets. If she thought they needed to address it, they could've released a short, to-the-point statement through their publicist and then retreated into privacy. But, oh, no! Where's the money and flashy attention in that?
Lynne disgusts me more than anyone else in the attention-whoring Spears family.

She strikes me as, other than very ambitious and greedy, someone who sees herself at the same level of her daughters, and likes to "compete" with them. In all the pictures I've seen, you never see her dress her age, always like a 20 year old, with those high ponytails, like she's one of them, with jeans, or sleeveless tshirts, always baring way too much for a fifty something
I also remember her saying, some years ago, when Britney bought her a mansion in Lousiana, something like "I love living in my $ 5 million mansion!"
a lot of it i bet started with Brit. always the center of attention, and JamieLynn just got tired of it. she's 16, and she thought , hmm, there's one way to get the attention focused on me. sad that there's another little life brought into the middle of this shit.

I don't want to become embroiled in a philisophical discussion about entities such as Mrs. Spears, suffice to say that 'mothers ' of her ilk make me want to puke.
Sadly, she isn't the first 'parent' to behave this way and as we all know, she won't be the last.
She is despicable, IMO. A nasty bit o' business.

Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears' daddy is still so "furious" that their mama Lynne sold J-L's story to the glossies that he ditched his daughters for Christmas.
Us reports that Jamie Spears, a private chef, "didn't spend Christmas with [Lynne] or Jamie Lynn and instead stayed in L.A. to work." Unlike Lynne, says the mag, Jamie "doesn't get a dime from his daughters ... He busts his ass to take care of himself. That's why he's so furious with Lynne."
Jamie has, however, seen the Brit boys, Sean and Jayden, while in L.A., according to Us.
