Default Amy Winehouse's mother writes an open letter to her

    Save Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse's mother, Janis, wrote an open letter to her daughter that was published in the News of the World.
Here's just some parts of the letter:
"I HOPE you understand why I'm writing this. We have spoken recently but many people will wonder why I haven't run down to whatever hotel you're staying in, scooped you up and taken you home for a hot bath and a steaming bowl of chicken soup."
"When I was quoted recently as saying "Thank God Blake's inside" what I meant was that putting him in jail might help him to clean up HIS act and change HIS life. It wasn't said out of viciousness or to upset you. If your relationship is meant to be, it will survive. I'm a great believer that everything in life happens for a reason, a purpose. And if you two are destined to be together forever, then so be it. But I want you to love Blake for who he is, Amy. Not because you feel sorry for him, or because he can get you doped up. Not for any other reason than that you have respect for him."
"Early fame has overwhelmed you, it's dizzied you and muddled your mind. For a moment, forget you're a superstar. You're also young and vulnerable. Remember you're just an ordinary human being, no stronger than any of the rest of us. You think you're strong enough to get through this on your own, darling, but you're not. I want you back, and I'll make you fitter and stronger. I'd like nothing better than to have you home and help you put on a bit of weight with some wholesome home cooking."
Janis asks Amy to come home and to pick up the phone, so she can take care of her.

Chicken soup...not so much. Rehab...now there's something that girl can use.

You've got to be pretty far gone to have your mother write an open letter to a newspaper telling you to get your shit together.

It's not like Amy will actually read it. Or care.

She must feel fairly desperate to have done this. I am unsure if this was the best way to go, but again, if she's desperate, you do things you may not normally do. On Dlisted, Michael K said he doubts that Amy will get past the first line of the letter. I agree.

She sends it to News of the World? Who takes that rag seriously?

It makes me sad to watch Amy chuck her future away like this. It must be torture for her parents.

My mom would so write an open letter if she thought it would get me back in her little cult again. I hope she doesn't read about this!

She has very loving parents who are willing to help her. What an pathetic human being to choose the drugs over her loved ones. Drug addicts don't care about anyone but themselves and their need for the next high.

Nobody does. And carrying on in this cynical vein, I am wondering if old lady Winehouse was paid for writing this plaintive "letter."

Sad but true...and it is always such an absolute waste of time and talent until the abuser wakes up...if s/he does.

I've never found myself in a situation like this with a loved one, but I find it hard to believe that there's really NOTHING her parents can do to help her.
I don't know, like lock her up or take her away to some deserted island?

And hopefully Amy won't be too wasted to understand her mother's word.

Amy's parents have always been very vocal in trying to save her. If they think public shaming might work, then everyone should sit back and let them at it.
